Surely the trains will run till midnight on the weekend?
Lots of students coming back to their accommodation at the university plus shift workers at the hospital...

Plus all the people who need to connect to a bus....

2288 is 52 x 44, so is consistent with 44 extra services per week. That could be made up of 2 extra services for 5 weekday evenings plus 17 services on each of Sat and Sun or 4 services for 5 weekday evenings plus 12 services on each of Sat and Sun. Hardly a huge improvement.

44 extra services each week wouldn't even cover hourly services on weekends. Currently theres about 57 services each weekday on the Tonsley line and the line only operates 12 hours a day (approx 6:30am to 6:30pm) 44 services wouldn't even cover one weekend day. Has the government lost the plot thinking 44 extra services a week is going to cover what is needed. If it's going to operate for an extra 5 hours each weekday, even at hourly services thats 50 extra services just for the weekdays, 10 a day. To put it in perspective the Seaford line has 70 services on Saturday or Sunday and 140+ on a weekday. 44 services is a joke. Is this govt so out of touch it thinks this is enough?

Could it be trains will be cut back to hourly on weekday interpeak? That would allow about 12 services each way each weekday to be reallocated to evening and weekend services? Added to the 44 new services this totals 104 new services a week.

64 new weekend services (hourly 8am to Midnight) and 8 extra services on weekday evenings?

I don't think they would cut the services back to hourly on weekdays, they would need to also reconfigure the Seaford Line services as well to reduce the amount of trains running express. Even the Grange Line has a half hourly service during weekdays.

Do we know that a "service" is one way? The maths would work out easier if a "service" starts and finishes at Adelaide station.

So if people have to wait on average 30 minutes, that adds an average of 30 minutes to their journey. The train will take about 20 minutes to get to the city, so the average journey will be 50 minutes. It also takes 50 minutes to cycle to the city. :wallbash:

Seaford trains should be express into the city and the Flinders trains should be at the same frequency as Seaford, but cover the close in stations.

It will probably be made public on the Adelaide Metro website tomorrow.
Flinders Link train passengers to the university and hospital will have a unique opportunity to set the timetable
Miles Kemp, The Advertiser
October 11, 2020 12:22pm

In a rare chance to create a better service for themselves, train commuters at the Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University have been asked to suggest the new Flinders Link train timetable.

Transport Minister Corey Wingard has released for public consultation new timetables for the Tonsley Line, with the soon to be opened extension to the Flinders University oval.

The $125m extension takes the line above and over South Road, and means the entire line will enjoy around 12,000 trips too and from the city each year.

Mr Wingard urged university and hospital commuters to provide feedback at www.adelaidemetro.com.au, especially with information about shift work and irregular university times when students would need transport home.

“Consultation will allow those who specifically intend on using the new line to give their feedback on the timetable,’’ he said.

“There is room to tweak times where necessary for example shift workers so the trains can align with typical start times and scheduling with bus services and so on.”

The new services will result in 236 additional train trips per week – 10 in each direction on standard weekdays (20 trips all up per weekday) and 34 in each direction on weekends (136 trips all up per weekend).

“In total this is approximately 12,000 additional trips, excluding public and school holidays etc that will be provided to meet the needs of our patrons,’’ Mr Wingard said.

“The Marshall Government is committed to delivering better public transport for commuters and that includes consulting with them on the services they’ll be using.

“More than 12,000 additional trips to and from the Flinders precinct and southern suburbs is a massive win for commuters, workers, residents and visitors.

“We’re focused on getting people where they need to go faster so they can spend more time with their families and doing what they love.”

Member for Elder Carolyn Power said those who already used the Tonsley line had welcome the greater frequency of trips.

“I’ve received overwhelming positive feedback since we announced weekend and evening services along the Tonsley Line,’’ she said.

“Residents have been calling for additional services on the Tonsley Line for years so the indicative timetable is a massive win for locals.

“Residents tell me they are so pleased knowing they can now catch the train to the city on the weekends, or if they stay back late at work they will now be able to still catch a train home.

“Safe, affordable and reliable transport is a cornerstone to great cities, and the Tonsley/Flinders Line, with these additional trips, helps make suburbs such as Clovelly Park, Tonsley and Mitchell Park an even greater place to live.

The Flinders Link project was first devised in 2008, but never completed until it became an election issue in 2018.

Work began in 2019, but in April this year, it was revealed the cost of the project had blown out from $86 million to $125 million.

More services for the Adelaide passenger rail network
When: From Monday 12 October 2020 to Friday 30 October 2020

Affecting: TONS, SEAFRD

Residents, students and workers from Adelaide’s southern suburbs can look forward to extra services announced for the new Flinders train line.

The Flinders train line is an extension of the existing Tonsley line, which currently only operates on weekdays to a 20 minute frequency during peak times and 30 minutes at all other times until 7pm.

The timetable proposed for the new Flinders train line extends services until late on weeknights and will provide a 20 minute frequency during peak times on weekdays and 30 minutes at all other times.

The new service will also run on weekends for the first time from early morning to late night.

Staff at Flinders Medical Centre have been catered for, with services to ensure arrival at the precinct by 7am, 7 days a week.

Daytime frequency seems to be 30 minutes.....disappointing, whilst nighttime is 30 minutes.

And the inner south stations between Woodland Park and the city receive trains from Seaford and Flinders giving a no patronage station like Emerson a train every 10/15 minutes during the day and 15 minutes at night !

Surely Seaford should become an express service to Woodlands Park leaving Flinders to service the inner south stations.

Last train from the city back to Flinders each night seems to be 2250......a bit early for my liking...surely a 2350 train would be justified.

The 30 minute frequency is fine, it's the same as the Grange, Outer Harbor and Belair Lines. The real confusion is why Seaford trains are express between Woodlands Park and the city on weekends but not weekdays, and why they run so close to one another when they could really make it a service every 15 minutes on the inner stations.

Make sure to send in your feedback if you have any concerns about the proposed timetable.
