The Liberals proposed a southern O-Bahn at the 1997 election. It didn't go ahead because the cost estimate blew out from $70 million to $184 million. In today's dollars, it'd be much more, even discounting the number of underpasses/overpasses originally envisaged given the surrounding infrastructure is significantly changed.

From memory, the idea was to mostly use the Tonsley and (then) Noarlunga Centre corridors but return to road at Goodwood into the city. Emerson was problematic.

Did a Google search re: southern O-Bahn, and came back to Sensational Adelaide via an old post by Rhino:

That would be a strange route. And rather disastrous to the amenity of the linear parks.

What a bizarre indirect transport proposal......and where does it end up? About 500 metres from the the Tonsley line.....
Just imagine if the Flinders link had been built in the late 90's!

Some pictures from 5/9/20 - track has been laid at the station at FMC and the over head masts are in place. This station is more advanced than the new Tonsley Park station. Please lick on pictures for bigger.

From today's Advertiser, after Corey Wingard announced increased services on the Flinders/Tonsley Line.
Assuming this means 4 extra, hourly services on weeknights, this leaves 24 on weekends, most likely to be hourly between 9am and 9pm?

Hourly service means few people will use it. Why spend so much on infrastructure and barely use it?
