Can we please add "Monument" to the thread title, as names make it easier to recognise a thread than just addresses.

It looks like this is on the San Churros corner, not the Stag corner. Glad of that. Building looks good, I'm sure we'll get used to its height in this location over time, as other talls go up in the vicinity.
cheers,
Rhino

Is this literally on the corner or offset back? If it is right on the corner there needs to be a decent step back from Rundle Street.

Quite surprised [in a good way] how this got approved without any comment or even notice. Only next door [Oyster bar site], Hines got knocked back a few years ago and no attempt was made to retry for a lower height. They just seemed to give up and walk away as if it was all too hard.

Same site, same thread, if I'm not mistaken? Go back to post #1.

I do hope there's podium or setback at about level 3. Tallies are find in the East end, but we don''t want a lower Pirie Street canyon here. With all the heritage frontages, it just wouldn't work.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I presume he means PJ O'Brien's.

I thought under the original proposal it went (as in the building, or at least the facade, stayed but the pub function was lost) - but hopefully this time it will be different. On top of a personal loathing of seeing pubs closed down to make space for residential developments it's actually a pretty good Fringe venue for comedy etc.

It's now on realestate.com.au

they don't list apartment sizes, but cheap it is not I would say...

Received an email saying 1/3 of the 70 apartments are sold with official release to follow soon. Expected construction later this year.

One bedroom from $415k

Two bedrooms and two bedroom plus study from $725k

Sub Penthouses from $1.8m

New Render. unsure how i feel about it. There's a lot going on.

This better not signal the death of the garden of unearthly delights...

The fact that you've suggested it tells me that you know as well as I do that it will...

The kind of people who buy into these apartments want to be "somewhere cultural" but then piss and moan as soon as any of the culture that comes with the area starts to even remotely impact their way of life. I don't even hate the design of the height of this building that much, I dislike it purely for the fact that it could cause serious issues for the future of certain Adelaide Fringe novelties.

It's telling that the render is positioned to be the "least offensive" view from way back on North Tce. This simply is out of total scale for the location and Adelaide as a whole. Our planning system and advocates for high-rise residential have simlpy got it wrong.
With all our space, and as any decent urban planner will attest, appropriate scale is part of livable city - this development simply raises the middle finger to everyone else and grabs what they want - high value returns and benefits for a few people who wish to live with a view (and probably regret quickly living in a small apartment above 15 stories high - particularly as they get used to travelling up and down in a lift all day).
Why aren't we ensuring all developments are taken into context with a broader plan - these huge high-rises right on the fringe simlpy aren't necessary. They could (and should) make excellent profit (higher % yield on lower volume) by developing smaller urban scale apartments on such a prime location (4-6 levels max and complimentary to the surrounds through intelligent architecture).
This is a real shame I say.
