Clearly fake images, without the right hand turn the extension is useless!
Caught Nort! I confess.
Now I've woken up, a bit more detail.
Flexity 113 went across the intersection and down to East Terrace without a hitch. The tram stopped at points, lights, and various locations where clearances for mirrors and platform gaps was checked. Slower than walking pace the whole way. Same on the way back. Then the tram took off to the Entertainment Centre to reverse and repeat the exercise without stopping (except lights and the East Terrace points) at walking speed. The only puzzle was why the tram didn't reverse at the Railway Station crossover, as everyone was waiting for it to return.
That was it from me.
Your job is not yet completed

… (presumably) there is another section for tonight - King William Road to the Festival Plaza Precinct. I hope this one will not require reversing at Glenelg.

Possibly the proximity of the crossover to the Victoria St intersection? I've only seen the crossover used to reverse trams from Hindmarsh.

That is likely the case, and if it were only a driver on board, and without traffic control the issues are clear. However, with over forty people waiting round, methinks a points operator, and one of the many lollipop persons at 3am would have been worth it. That said, it's not a big deal. It just seemed odd with all those people milling around. The whole thing went very well.

Last night, trams returned to the eastern half of North Terrace for the first time since 1958. Flexity 113 was the chosen vehicle to undertake clearance testing along the new line. After coming off the Glenelg line, 113 was reversed at West Terrace using the turn back siding before running back to Adelaide Railway Station and waiting until 01:46am before crossing over King William Street to run to the new East Terrace terminus.
After reversing at the terminus, 113 ran back towards King William Street and eventually reversing again at West Terrace. The line running north to Elder Park or the connecting single track curves weren't tested last night but will no doubt be tested in the coming nights.
A timeline (written as things happened) is also attached:
12:11am:
Track crews are presently using leaf blowers and groove cleaning tools to remove leaves and other debris. Flexity 113 is at Rundle Mall tram stop with ‘Test Run’ on the desto boards. My guess will be that it will go to Elder Park first before using the north east curve to go to the old RAH.
12:22am:
Scratch out my previous guess, overhead a few people involved with the project saying that 113 will instead go to either ARS or West Terrace to shunt and instead run along North Terrace first. Only way to find out for certain will be when the tests begin.
12:31am:
113 depart Rundle Mall and heading west along North Terrace. Shunting at West Terrace.
12:36am:
Water barriers are being drained on King William Road to allow access to the Elder Park terminus.
12:42am:
Last regular service from Hindmarsh to Glenelg has run through. 113 trailing behind.
12:53am:
Traffic management in place to direct all road traffic around the corners of the intersection making the centre clear of traffic.
01:05am:
Water barriers removed on North Terrace.
01:39am:
113 approaching point changing induction loop from ARS. By the sounds of it, testing point operation.
01:46am:
113 has crossed over King William Street becoming the first tram since 1958 to access the eastern side of North Terrace. After crossing over the crossing blocks and point blades, the tram stopped for measurements to be carried out.
02:05am:
113 arr Gawler Place tram stop.
02:36am:
Arr Old RAH scissor crossover.
02:53am:
113 arrived at the East Terrace terminus.
03:05am:
Return to Frome Street intersection on the return run.
03:24am:
Arr University tram stop.
03:34am:
Arr SA Museum stop.
03:44am:
Back at KWS/North Terrace intersection. Tram has stopped to check the induction loop operation and clearances between the side mirrors and point indicator signal.
03:52am:
Crossed over KWS intersection and return to Adelaide Railway Station.

One of our modern "Bib-and-Bub" Citadis also took place in the testing early this morning.

The night view with the Cathedral in the background will, no doubt, be popular with photographers in the future.

Rubberman and Will409 thank you for the photos.
BTW, am I missing something? Last night in 9 channel news it was mentioned some electrical fault as one among others reasons for delays in opening the tram lines…At the moment I am not in Adelaide and I just watched a short clip. Anyone willing to explain? Thank you.

Any more tests lately?
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

You have got to be joking. What more dramas could possibly unfold with the extension? Just wow.
