Why would you go onto a forum that people share information about projects (quite a lot of it inside information that is not widely circulated) and not want to divulge any of your own and instead only want to say I know something that you don't? I don't get it?[Shuz] wrote:Not gonna bother in future then. You've ruined it for yourselves and everyone else here.

The latest traffic map seems to show some sort of a rail corridor to Aldinga, not sure if it's the correct one though.

Surprised it's been released, whether intentionally, or unintentionally, but yes it is.Norman wrote:The latest traffic map seems to show some sort of a rail corridor to Aldinga, not sure if it's the correct one though.

the rail extension will be some time in the future, the new Government will concentrate on the Northern Rail Bypass and GlobeLink, an improvements to rail will come after the Gawler Line electrification, by that time Aldinga would have spread to Sellicks Beach and the northern urban spread will continue to Two Wells
[PRO] Re: Aldinga Rail Extension | $800m
If one thing has happen correctly in Adelaide transport planning is that they left the most southern transport corridor reserve intact, even if the need for the infrastructure itself is years off. The Southern Expy was largely constructed on land already reserved decades ago. Actual forward planning that should have been better adhered to over the rest of the metro area, particularly the inner North/South corridor. Good to see that as the South expands, this provision is still in place.flaneur wrote: ↑Sun Jun 10, 2018 1:57 pmthe rail extension will be some time in the future, the new Government will concentrate on the Northern Rail Bypass and GlobeLink, an improvements to rail will come after the Gawler Line electrification, by that time Aldinga would have spread to Sellicks Beach and the northern urban spread will continue to Two Wells

Its a bit unusual that on Location SA, you can see the corridor for the Aldinga Rail extension on the Transport / Railways layer. But then it also still shows the old Willunga rail corridor, doesn't show the Flinders extension, still shows the Northfield rail corridor, doesn't show the Port Dock Spur line. It's rather inconsistent.

A branch line from the Seaford to Willunga via McLaren Vale should be highly considered too. Imagine posters at Adelaide Railway Station showing vineyards with a purple 4000 train

Two potential sites for Aldinga Railway Station revealed
MARCH 18, 2019
The State Government is asking the Aldinga community where a future railway station should be built in their suburb.
Renewal SA has proposed two locations for a train station on a 94ha block of land, bounded by Main South, Aldinga Beach, Quinliven and How roads.
One site is next to the Aldinga super school being built on 14ha of vacant land on Quinliven Rd.
The birth to Year 12 school will cater for up to 1675 students and is expected to open in time for the start of the 2022 school year.
The other location faces out onto Aldinga Beach Rd.
The station would cater for any future extension of the railway line from Seaford to Aldinga.
According to the Aldinga Structure Plan, the option next to the school would make it easier for students to access the campus while the other site was closer to Southern Vale Christian College and shops on How and Aldinga Beach roads.
The structure plan will be used by Renewal SA to determine future uses for the land, and the infrastructure needed to develop it.
It allows for the $305 million Main South Rd duplication, from Seaford to Aldinga, which is expected to start this year.
Up to 1000 new homes are proposed for the site.
Renewal SA has previously said that it wants to ensure future developments are “seamlessly linked” with the existing Aldinga area and the broader region.
Aldinga is one of SA’s fastest growing regions and Onkaparinga Council will work with Renewal SA to ensure the plan caters for current and future residents.
The structure plan is expected to be complete by mid-2019.
The State Government purchased the land in 1989 as part of Metropolitan Adelaide’s future land bank. It is currently leased for cropping.
The plan can be viewed on the Renewal SA website.
Public consultation closes on Sunday, April 7.

It'll likely follow this path in full.

So the Aldinga Beach station will be about 1.4km from the Aldinga Coles/Foodland shops and even further from the beach. Aldinga Beach is a popular destination and should be accessible by fast public transport from Adelaide but instead with this proposal it'll require a transfer to bus or a long walk.
I propose extending the line west to a station just south of the Aldinga Central Shops.
Aldinga Beach Road could be closed between How Road and Pridham Boulevard and diverted to the current Lacey Drive, with extension of the current Lacey Drive to Pridham Boulevard.

When they (ie the South Australian government) decide to build the extension to Aldinga, well how about building it all the way to Sellicks Beach at the same time.
Why not ?! Its probably only one more stop (and that will be the end of the line) Spend the money now (because it will only get more expensive in the future)
And it gives the government a chance to get ahead of the sprawl and plan some decent services around the railway stations ie the shopping centre and bus interchange built around the train station. Planning 101 in the rest of the world but oh no, not in Adelaide, lets build the shopping centre AWAY from the public transport...... and how about some decent medium density within walking distance of the town centre....

Have to agree, that even when presented with an opportunity to build proper hubs, on greenfield sites, all levels of government responsible for these developments seem to baulk. Have to come to the conclusion that the rail system is seen more of an afterthought in SA,- something that has to be worked around rather than WITH. It is a shame, because the bones are there to create a much more integrated metro area, linked by rail, even using the existing setup, with some relatively minor adjustments. Sure it all costs billions, but they are spending that anyway, for questionable extra benefit at present. Have the extra numbers using the Seaford line justified the expense so far? -Has the journey time greatly sped up? Has the connectivity to services/retail zones increased? Has urban renewal opportunities in existing areas been created? Just as a casual observer I would have to say no to all of the above, so realistically, they have just tacked a few extra kms on the end and bunged some wires up.PeFe wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 10:00 pmWhen they (ie the South Australian government) decide to build the extension to Aldinga, well how about building it all the way to Sellicks Beach at the same time.
