Thanks for checking on that with the council. I like a few of the bars along there but it’s a real struggle with the constant roadworks. I wonder when they’ll be finished?

I asked the workers finishing off this exact question and they said it’s complete.
Hopefully the collection of bars halfway down will be be able to utilise the permanent space they now have and salvage this somehow? I’m thinking some nice awnings, decent outdoor seating, plants etc.
Paving works pretty poorly in Adelaide. Unless they do it properly with a concrete base, they move all over the place and crack after just a few years. Asphalt is much easier to maintain.
With regards to the planter boxes, I don't have a problem with them in laneways such as this. But I note that they're popping up around the place of late, notably on North Terrace and they kind of look tacky... Why not make proper gardens?

Planter boxes are waaaay cheaper and easier to do.
As opposed to some of the comments above I don't have a problem with the materials used - I think it looks simple and smart and much better than before. I think the council could roll out a lot of these on other up and coming laneways that could do with a lick of paint. I wish they could have planted trees like Bank St but as the council's greening plan says planter boxes will be used in street upgrades when underground services and a lack of sunlight make this a challenge.
