Lot 14, Tonsley and now the airport. Doesn't that spread the high tech companies too thin? Wouldn't it be better to put them all in the one place, like Tonsley?

There's also Technology Park at Mawson Lakes.1NEEDS2POST wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 8:51 pmLot 14, Tonsley and now the airport. Doesn't that spread the high tech companies too thin? Wouldn't it be better to put them all in the one place, like Tonsley?

Federal government also pumping money into proposed "space park" at Adelaide Airport.
Federal support for South Australia space venture
The federal government will provide $20 million to help develop a satellite manufacturing hub in Adelaide that seeks to position South Australia as a “global centre of excellence” in space technologies.
The funding, on top of $20 million already provided by the South Australian government, will help Fleet Space Technologies establish a manufacturing facility at the Australian Space Park being developed at Adelaide Airport.
The $66 million project is expected to create 221 jobs and make SA the largest manufacturer of satellites in Australia.
Federal Industry Minister Angus Taylor said the support was about creating more opportunities to grow the local space industry, unlocking further investment and delivering skilled jobs needed now and for the future.
“Space technologies are drawn on every day by Australians when using navigation systems in their cars and smartphones, by farmers to monitor the health of their crops and by emergency workers to plan and respond to bushfires,” the minister said.
“This is a huge opportunity for Australia. Our space businesses are already globally recognised but these investments are about driving their potential to scale up and create more high-value jobs.”
Science and Technology Minister Melissa Price said the investment would help future-proof the space sector by making it more self-sufficient.
“This project will lock in Australia’s ability to deliver along the entire space supply chain,” she said.
“From research and design through to manufacture and operation, Australia’s credentials as a leading space nation are going to be significantly strengthened by this investment.”
Working with a range of partners, Fleet Space Technologies will help local companies in neighbouring industries like defence, communications and precision engineering enter the space supply chain and harness local robotics and automation expertise.
This work will further build capability for use in missions to the moon and beyond, as well as refining technologies that can help on earth, such as agricultural management through earth observation.
The company said its hub would operate as a common user facility providing design, manufacturing, testing, and launch-critical components for space-going vehicles and satellites.
This will include the development of a new range of small satellites using the latest manufacturing technology such as 3D printing.
“This will drive down costs and democratise a technology that enables global connectivity across multiple sectors and user-cases,” the company said.
“The space hub in Adelaide will position South Australia as a true global centre of excellence in the development of space technologies,” Fleet Chief Executive Flavia Tata Nardini said.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
I remember years ago, probably around 2018, I read an article stating that Emirates was considering bringing their A380 offering to Adelaide. Shame thats not happening anymore.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Not likely to ever see the A380 on regular services in and out of Adelaide given that a lot of airlines have preference in ordering twin engine A350s and B787 Dreamliners for direct longer flights over the A380s. Even Emirates, the biggest supporter of the A380s is turning away from this model.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Yeah, I doubt we will ever have the possibility of A380 services again. The industry is moving towards twin engine medium capacity aircraft.AG wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 1:27 pmNot likely to ever see the A380 on regular services in and out of Adelaide given that a lot of airlines have preference in ordering twin engine A350s and B787 Dreamliners for direct longer flights over the A380s. Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Most recent schedule is roughly:
- Singapore Airlines is flying once or twice daily from Singapore (about 9 flights per week).
- Malaysia Airlines is flying twice weekly from Kuala Lumpur.
- Fiji Airways is flying twice weekly from Nadi.
- Air New Zealand is doing 4 weekly flights from Auckland.
- Qatar is doing Doha to Auckland via Adelaide and return 5 times per week.
- Jetstar is flying from Denpasar daily.
- Qantas is doing a one way flight which originates in Melbourne with stopover in Adelaide to Dehli (the return flight is direct Delhi to Melbourne), but this will likely drop off the schedule.
China Southern, Cathay Pacific and Emirates have not operated out of Adelaide since Covid.
There is a memorandum of understanding in place between Adelaide and Christchurch Airports, with the aim for direct flights (my guess is Air New Zealand most likely would pick this route up).
Adelaide Airport has previously stated that they are looking at direct flights to the US (west coast) and Japan.
Qantas has put in an order for a bunch of Airbus A220s, which would replace the B737-800s, B717s and E190s. These planes could seat around 130 passengers, but with a far bigger flight range than the planes they are replacing, which might open up more possibilities for regional (Kalgoorlie, Uluru?) and short haul international routes (Bangkok, Hanoi, Queenstown, Christchurch?) from Adelaide.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
The A220's won't have the range to get from Adelaide to Bangkok or Hanoi, and will likely just replace the B717 services. They have also ordered A321XLR which could be used on new international routes from Adelaide - but in reality I wouldn't get my hopes up. QF has never prioritised or valued international services out of Adelaide, and the new A321's are likely just to replace existing ageing B378 services. Any new international routes from Adelaide are more likely to come from JQ.AG wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 2:17 pm

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Adelaide airport are dreaming if they think that a direct flight to the US is possible.
Our economy is a joke. With the Aussie dollar going down the US is becoming more and more expensive as a holiday destination.
If we can’t even get a direct flight to China or Hong Kong, then what chance do we have of getting a flight to the US.
