The advantage of keeping Glengowrie is in reduced operating costs for morning services to start at Glenelg and evening services to terminate there. The same reason that most of the trains are stabled overnight near the ends of the network.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:18 amOr the Glengowrie depot will be closed, with a new one in Hindmarsh.[Shuz] wrote:Two bridges. My understanding is that a new short rail bridge will be created across Sturt River to create a new entry access point to the Glengowrie Tram Depot. Although I don't see how they can do this without property acquisition or closing off the Maxwell Terrace bridge altogether.

The Milner St/Manton St dogleg is also what would be required to extend the tram line along Grange Rd, as contemplated by the AdeLink study.[Shuz] wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:47 pmThe open air carpark at 58-66 Manton Street would seem like the most feasible and likely option for a new tram depot at Hindmarsh. It would be logical to extend the line down Port Road, hook left into Milner Street and have a stop there That can service Coopers Stadium and the Education Development Centre and then a short stub along either along Manton Road or Orsmond Street to the new depot.

Looks like some soil testing happening in the maccas car park next to the Morphett Rd tram crossing at the moment.

I've heard from two separate sources that the grade separation at the Morphett Rd crossing is a reasonable chance of going ahead. Apparently the high voltage overhead cables and the need to place these underground is one of the key things that could determine if the grade separation happens or not.

Promising. Let's hope it happens. Would also be a potential indicator for a new depot.SouthAussie94 wrote:I've heard from two separate sources that the grade separation at the Morphett Rd crossing is a reasonable chance of going ahead. More info in ABC News and InDaily:
I still think they should be throwing in the Beckman Street level crossing as part of these works.

- Cost $200 million split 50/50 fed/state (total cost for South, Cross, Marion and Morphett is $870 million)
- Morphett overpass includes Mike Tutur Bikeway
- Stop 12 (Morphetville) will be moved eastward and combined (adjacent racecourse)
- Stop 13 (Glengowrie) will be moved closer to Morphett Road
- Morphett/Anzac intersection will also be upgraded including an extended left turn from Anzac to Morphett (much needed!)
- Tram line will be closed for 6 months in second half of 2025

Not to mention Goodwood Road. Might as well make this $1bn worth of worths and tick all the issues off with the same pen. Goodwood Road and a rebuilt overpass at Goodwood Railway Station keeping the line elevated through this whole section.SRW wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 3:56 pmMore info in ABC News and InDaily:Details include:

No word on the tram depot. Also, feels like the overpass design may not consider the upcoming Morphettville redevelopment (could be longer to be less of a divide?).
I still think they should be throwing in the Beckman Street level crossing as part of these works.
Re: PRO: Marion Road Level Crossing Removal Project | $200m
If they removed all the level crossings then maybe they could step on the gas outside of the shared corridors in the city, like the Luas does with their Citadis 401 and 502s in Dublin
Re: PRO: Marion Road Level Crossing Removal Project | $200m
Presumably they could also significantly increase the frequency e.g. 4min frequency over peak hour.

Re: PRO: Marion Road Level Crossing Removal Project | $200m
I'd definitely be in favour of a grade separation with Goodwood Road. However, it should come with provision for a future (restored) light rail line down Goodwood Road.

That literally defeats the purpose of a grade separation.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 6:07 pmI'd definitely be in favour of a grade separation with Goodwood Road. However, it should come with provision for a future (restored) light rail line down Goodwood Road.
Honestly, I don't get the point of the grade separations for light rail/trams. The point of trams is they're supposed to run down streets and cross roads.

Re: PRO: Marion Road Level Crossing Removal Project | $200m
Should this topic be renamed to reflect the Morphett Road level crossing removal as well? Since they’re both part of the same overall project?
Re: PRO: Marion Road Level Crossing Removal Project | $200m
Exactly. It’s more about removing red lights for motorists than it is about improving the tram line.[Shuz] wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 8:31 pmThat literally defeats the purpose of a grade separation.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 6:07 pmI'd definitely be in favour of a grade separation with Goodwood Road. Mali and Kouts spin it as investment in public transport though. But no real long term benefits to tram users. People say it will allow frequencies to be increased, but what they really mean is that it will allow frequencies to be increased without needing to tread on the toes of any motorists.
There are clearly a lot of negatives to it for tram users in the short term as the network will be shut down for an extended period of time to allow the construction to take place. That got me thinking… when the south Rd overpass was built, I’m sure that the trams kept running. They built the overpass next to the at grade line and then switched over to the bridge once it was finished.
If they were really interested in improving the tram network and have $400+ million to spend, I really don’t think grade separations would be the first priority. 400 million would be more than enough to extend the line to North Adelaide, probably enough to take it into the heart of Prospect, which would be much better bang for buck in terms of actually improving the tram network than building a few bridges on the existing line.
Re: PRO: Marion, Cross & Morphett Roads LCR | $400m
The level crossing removal will improve travel times and reliability for one of Adelaide's most popular route, the M44 and others such as 100 and 248.
Recent changes to Adelaide Metro bus services have seen route numbers. Once the level crossing is removed at Marion Road, TT and the Government ought to look at changing the stopping pattern and route number. For example T244/T544 running all stops between Marion Centre and Stop 12, then 7, 3, 1, City Stops, Klemzig, Paradise, TTP then all stops to Golden Grove Village.
