News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Whatever happens here, the timing works out well with the end of the T2D tunnel constructions, and there should be serious consideration about the basement of this site being an east end station for an underground train line.

Rebuild the former Grand Central Hotel.

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
This site feels like an odd choice for a concert hall to me, but I can't put my finger on why. Mixed retail frontages, professional offices and residential feel right for the site, and maybe taller than they say in the article, which doesn't seem as tall as some of its near neighbours.
For a concert hall, how close to end-of-life are the Napier and Ligertwood buildings at Adelaide Uni? It would complement Elder and Bonython Halls. It's still not too far from the Rundle food precinct.

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
what about another carpark in its place since there'll be a demand when its gone and the council can make revenue from it
wrap it in a proper LED screen for ads...something with 21st Century tech instead of the 1970s res we currently have
again more revenue for the council

Personally I think they should demolish the carpark and just put a colourbond fence around the site. The city and North Adelaide are really in need of another vacant, weed filled space after the development on O'Connell St kicked off..abc wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 9:55 pmwhat about another carpark in its place since there'll be a demand when its gone and the council can make revenue from it

Could even allow parking here on an annual basis for the Fringe to encourage more cars into a pedestrian dominated retail and dining precinct.

The new glazing on the eastern side of the building looks promising!

The charming Netter Building, on the corner of Hindley & Gresham, is finally undergoing some sort restoration. It’s part of project being dubbed ‘Gresham Gateway’. Vague details on the website:
https://www.netter.com.au/
Hopefully this leads to an uplift in this part of Hindley, and encourages the Stanford to refurbish its decrepit rear annex on Gresham Place.

Looks good. Agreed - that Stanford owned shop at the back on Gresham has been up for lease for years.SRW wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 8:38 amThe charming Netter Building, on the corner of Hindley & Gresham, is finally undergoing some sort restoration. What is actually happening to No 1 KWS? I really hated the previous cladding and those hideous orange awning things. Should have left it original in my eyes - the marble cladding was gorgeous.

It's being replaced due to the combustible cladding problem. See: viewtopic.php?p=209659&hilit=cladding#p209659baytram366 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 9:11 amWhat is actually happening to No 1 KWS? I've also put some Streetview pictures in that thread about how deteriorated the original stone facade was. I'm not sure whether restoration would have been possible but I certainly agree the orange was a really bad look.

Worst thing is when the plastic fantastic goes on the old buildings and they retain the old windows. Looks like absolute crap, not to mention trades the thermal loss from the walls to the windows and achieves nothing that the energy certificate claims. They did the same with the building on Grenfell/kws.Llessur2002 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 10:31 amIt's being replaced due to the combustible cladding problem. This site, or group of sites fronting Currie, Gilbert and Peel Streets has just come on the market. Haven't seen a site this large in the centre of Adelaide since 60 King William Street (the former Southern Cross Arcade) changed hands.
