There already is - Kadaltilla/Park Lands Authority, however their authority is limited as the State Government can and does override their recommendations.rev wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 12:08 pmAlso could be a good opportunity for the government to setup a Parklands Authority and take away control/management of the parklands from the council.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 8:44 amI'd prefer ACC in that case. The SMA shouldn't exist.rev wrote:
They'll leave to be run by the ACC as is, or have it managed by the SMA or AVM.

That's part of the city council though. And the parklands aren't the typical reserves overseen by councils.Ben wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 3:11 pmThere already is - Kadaltilla/Park Lands Authority, however their authority is limited as the State Government can and does override their recommendations.
A proper state parklands authority should also oversee the squares within the city, and any other significant parkland within the metropolitan area such as the mangroves at st kilda/torrens island.
Make it a branch of NPAWS.

Is that new function centre intended to replace the existing cafe/restaurant near the weir footbridge?
[PRO] Re: North Adelaide Golf Course Upgrade | ~$50m
Looks like it. Best spot for it and has superb views looking over the Torrens towards the city.

Needs to be said, these renders are from 2018 when the ACC commissioned a study undertaken by a different golf course design group into upgrading the North Adelaide Golf Course, and they're not at all associated with the LIV redevelopment.

Oh really!? Thank you for pointing that out.
Vinny are you going to accuse Rev of posting misleading info now?

Slim details in the 7 News article stub I just saw, but sounds like the state government have declared the course upgrade a major project in order to completely sidestep the council before anyone gets a chance to stall. However they plan to hand it back to the council to manage when they're done.

Along with funding to maintain it to a high level of quality...right?NTRabbit wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 5:59 pmSlim details in the 7 News article stub I just saw, but sounds like the state government have declared the course upgrade a major project in order to completely sidestep the council before anyone gets a chance to stall. Memories of the footbridge ownership fiasco, where the state government put in fancy high maintenance landscaping and water features then declared it the ACCs responsibility to upkeep.
Suppose the course is a bit different, since it can generate revenue.

I don’t even blame the government. The council will just cause a litany of delays. The golf tournament is counting on this to be delivered on time as part of the contract with the league. Glad it’s getting priority attention to get it finished.

My understanding from listening to the last day or so of people blowing this way out of proportion as per mormal by the loud minority is that the course will be in State Government hands. It will revert back to an asset for the state within remaining as a public course, open access all year except for LIV and bump in/out times, course design by Greg Norman, new club house, fees for playing will be low for locals and higher for interstate/international visitors, driving range in Park 27A which at the moment is derelict wastelands. Great move to ensure the opportunity is realised. 80M economic return on this year's event.

The devil is in the detail. The proposed legislation allows for the government to actually take control of all adjacent parks too. This government is hellbent on getting its way no matter what. Some may say great, overrule the minorities but this is more than ignoring the wishes of some north Adelaide nimbys, this is another overreach by this labor government. The council was cooperating and there were no immediate hurdles, yet they wanted to make sure they had control over everything. This state government does not allow for democratic process to play out anymore. Some people love that the rules are being broken I guess? But for me I see it as there is no certainty in the planning rules we have, the government will break legislation, planning rules, tradition whatever is in its way to make its proposals reality. That is not good governance.
