I think it's a huge blow. It looks very definitive that NA/Europe will get it. Any bid for 2026? Could work better as I think Brisbane want to take a chance on the 2028 Olympics, and Adelaide could try out for 2026/2030 Comm Games?

Not this B-grade event again! haha! I would love for us to go for the Comm Games i really think it would give Adelaide the excuse it really really needs to do up and build the things that requires. Stadium, swim centre, athletics track, accomidation, transport etc. I reckon if Hamilton Smith didn't come up with it the Govenment would have thought it was a good idea! Well thats politics for you :wank:
To try to put it in some sort of perspective the World Cup is as big as having 2 grand finals a day for a month

I was just going to say - is the world ending in 2025 and hence there won't be any more World Cups to bid for after that?

No, dear. You're mistaken. The Apocalypse is scheduled for 2012. Why we're even bothering for 2018/2022, I don't know...

Maybe they are not worried about 2026 yet because it is 17 years away?

13,800 first the first game isn't a bad turn out 82% capacity which equals around 45,000 at AAMI.
That's our highest attendance for an openning round game also.

Loved the cow bells!

I'm actually quite surprised that both political parties have overlooked Santos Stadium; especially considering its a State Government asset.

Absolutely! It seems like another Adelaide landmark (or whatever you want to call it) wasting away till the Advertiser does a story on it and then its a massive issue for a couple of months e.g. Victoria Park
It can't even get top level athletics there anymore, the only thing it seems to be good for is rich schools sports days.

Although everyone who went and saw Melbourne Victory play at Olympic park said it was terrible to watch the game from all the way behind the track so I don't know how good an option it would be.

On another topic I wonder how possible it is to have Adelaide United games at Adelaide Oval from Early August (like this season) till say mid October before the cricket season starts. Considering the SANFL played finals up to the GF at Adelaide Oval the last few seasons and got 10,000 - 15,000 for a double header. Just getting Adelaide United to play the first 5 or so games of their season there and see if the crowds increase I would be surprised if we got under 20,000 for most of those games

I wasn't exactly calling for the support of retaining it as an athletics venue, but rather utilize the land which it sits upon for the redevelopment/reconstruction, what-not, into a soccer stadium. As they already own the land; such a venture should cost absolutely no more than $400m.

Melbourne's Rectangular Stadium - capacity 31,500 - started construction in 2007, and will open in 2010, at a cost of $268m.
Suncorp Stadium Redevelopment - capacity 52,500 - was redeveloped, and finished in 2003 at a cost of $280m.

I haven't factored in inflation, because RBA's inflation calculator isn't working. Grrr..... But still, the price guide, for both stadiums which are State Government owned assets, are bloody cheap.

It's also close to Mile End Station, which is a bonus.

Hi guys, I couldn't think of anywhere else to post this, but I guess that this is about as appropriate a forum as it gets; has anyone else been hearing the rumours about OneHD showing Bundesliga Matches? I don't have a Digital Tv or the Set Top Box at home, so I don't know if it aired, but I heard that there was going to be a match on the weekend.
If it is true, it's great news! No, not great, FANTASTIC news!!!!!
I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back. :)

Yes, they play one match per week, at around 11pm Saturday local time.
