Passenger growth for FY10 has been recorded at 3.2%. Domestic passengers were up 3.1% in the 12 month period to June, with passenger traffic demand serviced by the continued expansion of Tiger Airways. International passengers continue to perform strongly, in particular benefiting from heavy competition on price amongst the airlines coupled with the strong Australian dollar. Regional passengers have started to recover, with the new Qantaslink Port Lincoln route being very successful, and a strengthening in the mining sector generally.

Wow a 9% increase in international passengers travelling to/through Adelaide. I wonder what's driving that and if it's an anomoly or a sustainable level?

A source from another forum has confirmed that Adelaide will be seeing 2 direct charter flights from Saigon this year on November 21st and December 5th. Both flights will be using Airbus A330 equipment and it is said that these flights will be used to test the water for a more regular pax service between the 2 cities.

Initially, i thought the same thing too. I fly to Port Lincoln for work on a fortnightly basis and the flights are always fairly full. The QF going to PL in the morning carries 60-70% capacity (at a guess) and near full on the way home in the evening. the last two times i've flown home with rex in the mid-day and mid-arvo and even those flights have been basically full.
It's hardly surprising, as it's more than twice as far by road. The Wallaroo ferry isn't running at the moment, and even when it did run it was less frequent than the flights between Port Lincoln and Adelaide.

Some bad news for Adelaide Airport and its travellers with Tiger Airways relocating 1 Airbus A320 from Adelaide to Avalon and the reduction/cancellation of some routes...
Tiger Cuts Flights

Tiger Airways will suspend some routes on its domestic Australia network from November as two aircraft are reallocated to its Singaporean operations.

According to reports quoting an internal document sent to Tiger staff, the airline will cut its Adelaide-Brisbane and Adelaide-Gold Coast services from November 10. The airline will also reduce frequencies on the Adelaide-Melbourne route.

The cuts are as a result of one aircraft from Adelaide and one from Tullamarine being redeployed to the new Avalon base, while two A320s due to arrive in November will instead be deployed with Tiger’s Singapore base, which is understood to be growing strongly due to the recent opening of the Marina Bay Sands Casino.

With the changes, it is understood that by November, Tiger will have five A320s based at Tullamarine, and two each at Adelaide and Avalon. Tiger had previously indicated that it would have a fleet of 12 aircraft based in Australia by the end of the year.

Regarding the Tiger news, those that have booked to travel after November 10 will be offered a refund or alternative arrangements. Tiger will also reconsider restarting the services in future if demand picks up. The airline is looking at a fourth Australian base and are pursuing regulatory approval to fly internationally. Let's hope things get back on track for Tiger.

Tiger aren't cancelling all their services or are pulling out of Adelaide. This is simply some route consolidation that they have to do as they will be 1 aircraft short. No Sydney services will be affected.

That is true.

They wont cancel Sydney as thats one of their bread and butter routes....if they do, that only means the airline has bigger problems.

It was hinted at on 7 news tonight that Air Asia is looking to possibly add Adelaide to list of destinations. No commitment as yet though...

I was excited when I heard this headline but it wasn't really news. Airasia have had Adelaide on their radar for a few years now. I believe part of the problem is a lack of slots at KLIA- it's basically choccas.

Qantas is opening a crew base in Adelaide which means that around 100 permanent Tech Crew (Flight Attendants & Pilots) will basically live in Adelaide rather than overnighting here as they do now. I'm actually suprised that this hasn't been done before now as the cost of hotel accommodation would be significant over the period of a year.

The base is expected to start on December 1st and Qantas are advertising for staff and have already had a massive response.

I have also heard a rumour that the Qantas QF081/082 service to/from Singapore may go daily, but this is as yet unconfirmed.

Thanks for the update Professor. The Adelaide Airport ATC construction actually has its own thread here: http://www.sensational-adelaide.com/for ... 6&start=15

Also, in AAL's recent 'newsletter' they flagged a start of construction of the Carpark and roadway re-alignment later this year. Part of this development includes a new drop off area further away from the terminal and a plaza area in between. It has also been indicated that the extension to the T1 terminal with additional gates and a larger International passenger area is to start soon thereafter.
