Re: #U/C: Port Adelaide Tram Line
The trams might not even be usijng that corridor, so we'll have to wait and see. In regards to the Park and Ride, the Entertainment Centre is well set up to be used as a terminus for some peak hour trams.

Re: #U/C: Port Adelaide Tram Line
On mounday i heard a callout over the radio saying the the signals into the ent. centre were broken and needed resetting. they were not reset until 4pm tuesday.
Re: #U/C: Port Adelaide Tram Line
Ahhh...the old level crossing myth. What's the cycle time at South Road/Port Road? I dare say you have to stop at least once every 2 minutes.mm42 wrote:1. This is 1 closure of level crossing boom gates every 2 minutes. Apart from South Road, what other road grade separations are proposed for the 4 other level crossings ?
Re: #U/C: Port Adelaide Tram Line
Seems there was a major problem with the signals at the entertainment centre. I came home tonight on the tram at 5pm and as we approached park tce there was a tram waiting just before the crossover and there was a tram in the right side platform. The tram left the platform and headed to the city. The tram in front then went to the right side platform and we then waited before the crossover until that tram left for the city. Seems the trans are unable to use the left platform

That might explain why the 354pm trip(ex depot) from Morphett Road to Entertainment Centre did not leave the depot.I was observing movements outside Glengowrie depot from about 315pm till 420pm.2 Driver training trips -1 with Flexity 103 and 1 with Citadis 206 returned to the depot during that time.In fact Citadis 201 was the only Citadis I did not sight out today.
Re: #U/C: Port Adelaide Tram Line
I had a look at the new line today and was pleasantly surprised by how many people were on the tram too and from the Entertainment Centre. Its prob caus its free there was quite a few people on each tram. Now Im not sure if something was on at the Ent Cent today because the carpark was completely full, cant possibly be full of tram commuters just yet can it?
Re: #U/C: Port Adelaide Tram Line
There was a tram pulled up at the Entertainment centre last night (which looks pretty damn nice tbh) as i was going to the ACL game at Hindmarsh, it was packed with people going to the game. Considering the hassles i had with traffic getting to where i usually park i will defiantly consider parking somehwere along the route and catching in next time.

Anyone caught the tram to the Governer Hindmarsh hotel for a meal yet?

The Transport Department says six new Citadis "Euro" trams bought by the Government last year and fully operational as of this week are delivering "unprecedented access to services and more efficient and comfortable journeys".
But a morning peak-hour trip from Glenelg to Adelaide Railway Station now takes six minutes longer than it used to and the short trip across the CBD between North Tce and South Tce is taking nearly 15 minutes.
In June last year, a tram leaving Moseley Square on a weekday at 8am arrived at the railway station on North Tce at 8.35am. New timetables effective from this month show the same service, now leaving the square at 8.02am, arriving at the railway station at 8.43am.
The terrace-to-terrace travel time during morning peak hours used to be 10 minutes. It is now 14 minutes. A person walking at average adult walking speed (about 80m a minute) would travel the same distance in about 20 minutes.
Opposition transport spokesman David Ridgway said the problem was symptomatic of the Government's lack of a "properly planned, fully-integrated transport system".
"This is what you get when you do transport planning by press release and you just have ad hoc extensions because the Premier thinks it's a good idea," he said. "New rolling stock might look smart but it doesn't necessarily deliver the level of services you would expect."
Transport Department executive director, Rod Hook, said the six new trams had allowed "far greater flexibility with timetabling and the opportunity to run more services on the Glenelg line where they are needed most, in and around the am and pm peaks".
People for Public Transport spokeswoman Margaret Dingle said it was preferable for timetables to reflect actual running times rather than being "optimistic".
"I don't see how traffic congestion would affect it though, apart from traffic lights, because trams have the right of way," she said.

Re: #PRO: Port Adelaide Tram | #COM: Entertainment Centre Tr
Previous timetable did not allow sufficient running time on weekdays in the off peak and peak, plus short turn around times.Admittedly loadings were growing all the time.Late running was fairly common during these times, and quite often a late running trip to Glenelg would be terminated at Brighton Road, shunted and returned to the City to bring the run back on time.
The new timetable which began last Monday is much better in that it does have longer trip times which are realistic and does give crews an opportunity for a break at each terminus.Only problem I have noticed is that at Glenelg the arriving trip(in off peak) is 1 minute after the previous departure, from my observations many trips are arriving at the Bay early and having to wait a minute or 2 for the previous trip to leave the terminus.
Generally the new timetable has been working very well.

The previous tram timetable was hard to stick to, so it's good that they have allowed some more time. However, the current one allows far too much time in some sections, especially the section from the Entertainment Centre to the City.
Re: #PRO: Port Adelaide Tram | #COM: Entertainment Centre Tr
The tram from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre to Glenelg takes around an hour for the whole journey, it shouldnt be that long as most of the tramline is on its own right of way. A bus from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre would take say 15 minutes to get to the city and then providing you get a bus almost straight away the 265 will get you to Moseley Street Glenelg in around 30 minutes, so your whole journey time would still be around 45-50 minutes depending on your average wait time, the bus only gets right of way at some of the intersections whereas the tram has on most of the route right of way. Anyway other than that i think it was a great idea to extend the tram to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre because it will provide extra capacity for when there are concerts on. I heard many people say that why when there is a train nearby, true but you gotta understand that with a the bus, train and tram you are providing a service to the public for different needs and choice, if you need to catch another train then its best to get the train from Bowden, if you need to get to the central part of the city, Goodwood, Plympton or Glenelg you best to get the tram from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre tram station, if your only going a short distance or the bus continues to Kensington Road then its best for you to get the bus. Its about providing a simple to use and convenient public transport services.
Do yourself a favour and come to South Australia.

How much of the time is attributable to our ticketting system?

I don't believe you. Our ticketting system slows down bus and train boarding considerably. Why would trams be exempt? And why do you think they've been running late so often?bay transit wrote:None.
