CATHAY Pacific will add a fifth weekly flight between Adelaide and Hong Kong from early December in a tourism and export boost that coincides with the start of the first direct flights into Adelaide from mainland China.

The Hong Kong carrier will begin the extra flight from December 8, increasing capacity by 25 per cent and bringing the total weekly number of passengers to 2500 based on full flight.

quoting an old post Re. USA
OlympusAnt wrote:ADL is within the range to fly an A380 or Dreamliner to LAX non-stop, but its not economical to do so. We simply don't have the amount of people to fill an airliner, compared to lots of connections to SYD, MEL or BRI then onto the US.

In seriousness, I doubt Etihad would fly to Adelaide directly.
Maybe as a stop over from Melbourne if it was possible.
But there's already two Middle Eastern airlines flying here now, so anyone wanting to connect on-wards to Europe(or elsewhere) has that choice, plus Singapore airlines.

Air Asia Indonesia have signaled their intent to start Bali- Adelaide with their new A321's. However the state government may tread lightly with them considering the fallout from last time Air Asia X was here.

Air NZ to Christchurch sounds like one that would work - the Auckland flight has been around for years and years and successfully
