and put convention centre / casino / hotel / fnb / retail / sporting / public space, etc etc over the railway yards to make it a mixed use inner city destination.

Did you endure the IB? I don't think so, particularly because there are only a few schools in this state that offer it. It's like going from Year 10 to Year 11 1/2 or Year 12 and Year 11 is hard enough to go into from Year 10. Perhaps you should consider that before you make such statements Mr Cruise!
BTW, I'm aware that the world outside school is much harder and less sympathetic than High School, but I'm sure you recall your days as a Year 11 (specifically in the first half of the year) and how much of a leap it was! If not, well that's your opinion on Year 11, not mine, so don't criticise me for enduring the first of the big leaps in the business-end of my education!

Anyway, getting back on topic, has MR responded yet cruel_world_00? It's very interesting seeing how he reacts when pressed for information about his... disliked proposals.

I did 3 year 11 subjects in year 10 so no, i didn't notice a big leap. Although i did leave school at the end of year 11 so i'm not really sure what year 12 is like. I went out into the real world instead.

You make the key point that the concept is not dependent on a stadium. The central dynamic of Riverside West is that it is the best use of that area in terms of generating economic and social benefits. It's not a question of what it would cost, but rather what would be the cost of an opportunity lost. We know that the RAH can be rebuilt on its current site and still deliver the health service needs that are needed. We also know that we need to generate long term economic development in the city and this place is where it would happen. The concept plan is the beginning of a process that will give generations of South Australians long term benefits. In the short term it gives our young people a reason to stick around and get involved. Its worth noting that in Melbourne's Docklands development over a ten year period, for every dollar spent by the government, another one hundred dollars was spent by the private sector. That's a good response by MHS. His reply is really what most on here want to hear, it's a massive oppurtunity lost if we lose this site to a hospital. A stadium can be placed at various different locations in and around the CBD, but this is the site with most potential for an exciting entertainment precinct.

Thankyou! That's the sort of thing I want to hear. Lots of office buildings will only do so much, but by building precincts where people can go and enjoy themselves, spend a day/ night there, etc. is the kind of thing that will attract youth to stay. On our school trip to Melbourne last year, we didn't spend the first 5 hours of our trip at Southbank for no reason... Then the last 4 hours of the trip at the Docklands... (then being awed by the CityLink, but then again many of us hadn't been to Melbourne or Sydney before and in little ol' Adelaide the most we'll see in terms of 'great transport infrastructure' are the Heysen Tunnels, the Adelaide Railway Station and the Gallipoli Underpass -BTW, I hate to tell everyone this, but Sydney beat us to it in terms of naming something after the ANZACs, ANZAC Bridge : ) Don't you just love the apartments on the Waterfront in the foreground. (And the oil tanker )

Anzac Highway has been around alot longer than the Anzac Bridge in Sydney.

I always have to stop and think about what they mean by the 'Anzac Bridge' in Sydney. If someone calls it by the original name of Glebe Point Bridge I then know what bridge they're talking about

Probably of interest to followers of this thread, as you are probably pro keeping the RAH on current site, thus freeing up the railyards for an entertainment precinct:
(sorry if you read this on another thread as ive replicated the message on a few related topics, just skip it as they are all worded the same)

The Save the RAH Action Group is holding a public sausage sizzle in Rundle Park (end of rundle st, where garden of unearthly delights is held for the fringe).
It is on Sunday 21st June (this sunday coming) at 11am until 2pm. According to the website it will have invited speakers Vickie Chapman MP(Opposition Heath spokesman), Senator Nick Xenophon and Mark Parnell MLC. Health Minister John hill was invited but unfortunately unable to attend.

I think by rocking up is probably the best way (and cheap/easy) to send Rann the message that the railyard RAH is not supported by the community, both medical professional and wider public. With a liberal, independent and green (Parnell) it would appear to be a cross party gathering so don't be put off if you think it will be a liberal rally, thus, hopefully accessible even for labor supporters who still disagree with this one policy.
Writing on forums like Sen-Ad is great to develop my own views and hear other's points of view, but i know ive always been interested in doing something like attending this to actively show my support and am guessing there are also others on the site who share this ambition. Its clear (especially in adelaide) that interest groups (for better and worst) can sway the political process, so might as well use this often harmful tool to progression for an act of good (IMO). If there is a big crowd its going to make the news and get further towards page 1 in the tiser, thus it will be harder for Rann to spin. If there is a poor turn out, i guess the public does support the new railyard RAH and this is how the gov will interpret it.
