That looks superb. It's so out there, yet so inviting as well...

This is in Adelaide? CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT!

More great, innvoative fun ideas like this thanks.

With the carpark above Hungrys, this and the lights fown Nth Terrace, we could really make a thing about our night lights here. They should keep the Nth Terrace lights on every weekend IMO.

Am I the only one here who's a bit cynical to see $50m spent on a new front door when the money could have gone into improving the actual facility on the inside?

Edit: And by that I mean the arena itself.

They spent $50 million on the new front door, AND the new 2,500 seat theatre.

After all, this city was designed by COLONEL LIGHT, was it not?

I drove past this site the other night and they were doing tests of the lights one panel at a time. It seemed that only the internal faces light up while the outside stays completely dark, can anyone confirm that?

Whilst the lighting looks good; it doesn't take away from how much of a waste of taxpayer's money this project has been.

When the big name acts weren't coming to Adelaide, in the 1980s, no-one was saying that Private Enterprise should build a venue to get them here - on the contrary, everyone was saying that the Government should build a venue. That venue got built, and now, two decades later, needs upgrading, or once again we will not have a modern venue and we will miss out on events as a consequence. Private consortiums didn't want to build the venue then, they don't want to build it now. Is that acceptable, should we just throw our hands in the air and say "C'est la Vie"? That won't last long - before you know it there'll be more petitioning for the Government to build us a better venue. I don't think it's a waste of taxpayers' money at all. It's something Adelaide needs, that no private company wants to build.

As far as I can tell, that is what happens, but the outside should light up, as the panels are translucent. The light sources appear to be
mounted on the ribs, to direct light at the panels - six light sources per panel. They are visible below some of the panels in this pic:

From what I understand listening to the centre manager on 891 today while half asleep, 8,500 new seats have been installed in the
existing venue, & it will be like entering a new space, and the public open day will have guided tours, family entertainment, and a chance
for children to sing on stage & be seen on the projection system.

WOW! A public open day! But what day will it be on?
And the lighting within the orb are probably LEDs.

That's good to know, like I drove past they were only doing one panel at a time so I must just have missed seeing any lit up from the outside.

[The live venue theatre situated alongside the giant dome will be officially opened by Premier Mike Rann on Wednesday, March 3
followed by the public open day on Sunday, March 7.]
