World's biggest cycling conference

More than 900 cycling specialists will converge on Adelaide in May 2014 to attend the Velo-City Global Conference – the premier international event for cycling planning.

Delegates from Australia, New Zealand, the Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America will meet over four days to share ideas on creating and sustaining cycle friendly cities and regions.

Why Adelaide? We have the potential to become the most bicycle-friendly city in Australia, if not the southern hemisphere, thanks to strong government and community support for new cycling infrastructure and initiatives to encourage easier, safer riding.

In addition, the conference organisers noted how widely and enthusiastically the people of Adelaide – cyclists and non-cyclists alike – celebrate the annual Tour Down Under. That passion helped win the city’s bid and inspired the 2014 conference tag-line: ‘Celebration of Cycling’.

T.R.I.P.PING OUT IN ADELAIDE

You are invited to be an audience of one in the virtual reality theatrical experience of Kulturfiliale’s The Reality In Pieces.

Conceptualised from the role of the ‘player’ in video games such as Grand Theft Auto and Second Life, T.R.I.P. brings the audience into the director’s seat.

The participating audience begins their experience armed with several items or ‘props’ and the knowledge to watch, listen and ‘follow the woman with the red scarf’. Unlike other pieces of theatre, the direction of story is subject to the will of the audience; the course of the story may change at any time with the use of each prop.

Kulturfiliale’s T.R.I.P. takes the audience on a journey with avatar characters Johanna and Jonas Lukas, played by Tanya Weiler and Patrick Graham, whose story unfolds on the set of Adelaide’s streets, among the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

T.R.I.P. makes the audience question who is playing a part of the game, and who is simply acting out their everyday life.

T.R.I.P. intends to spark commentary about the difference between our public and private selves, privacy in this current age and individuals’ perceptions of the city and others who live in it.

Additionally, T.R.I.P. provides the general public with an opportunity to view the city from a different perspective. Binoculars and vantage points with headphones allow the audience to listen to conversations around them, publicising the private.

This is the Premiere work for the Australian branch of award winning German theatre company Kulturfiliale, which aims to tell stories in unusual places. South Australian actor Weiler has worked for the company since 2010, four years after its founding.

Each performance of T.R.I.P. lasts for 90 minutes and commences at Hindmarsh Square.

T.R.I.P. Adelaide will be performed from 22 May until 2 June 2013. The installation at Hindmarsh Square will open daily from 10am during the same time period.
