Even with a flat-roof, this new design with the diamond facade is way more iconic and unique than the original proposal (which I thought was rather meh - but that that’s just my opinion).
However, I think that the podium is now not as open and nice as the original design. I can’t put my finger on it, but its lost something.

I was so disappointed when the height was 149 meters but now am really excited about the new tallest. And I will be an early customer to the rooftop bar!
Hopefully a crane somewhere around June - Built are very professional and fast - really looking forward to this one.
The video suggests that reflection of light at different times will happen.
Plus some sort of light treatment at night too.

Would be great for that rooftop lighting feature to be LED lights which can synch to the colour theme on the footbridge and Adelaide Oval.

Hopefully the building will at sunset shine and sparkle like the skycity casino building.

Previous render with the angled roof line was much better. This kind of skyline-defining building needs a distinctive silhouette, not just more boxes.
Agreed 100%... this is just another box with a fancy add on. Maybe it will grow on me.
Also I just don't understand the logic of this city anymore, we have such an under utilised CBD though let's just cram everything in this spot. Currie Street is ripe for these type of developments, yet it's full of ugly low rise buildings.
Mali can spin it as much as he wants, though this is just $$$ to Mr Walker.

Looks good! It’s not pushing any boundaries but calling it just a box is harsh. 8/10.

Aviation height restrictions are the reason my friend. Plus half of it is owned by the bloody “polites” family.
Got to admit though, the diamond facade of this building will be iconic for festival plaza

Aviation height restrictions? This building is directly next to the flight path, more than Currie Street?

Probably (clearly) some government exemptions on this one. Currie street developments would have less help (from the men in power) in mitigating that regard.

It's less about Currie Street and more about the focal move to North Terrace as the focus of the CBD. Walker are getting a massive leg up here (have had one for a while) but this tower further reinforces the focal point shift. There's more to come development wise with North Terrace too, watch this space.
I'd say we'll see the Currie Street core be a focus of more residential/apartment/hotel style developments moving forward. The other benefit with this new found height along the Northern edge of the CBD is the chance it'll lift the allowable height limits for the rest of the city. I wouldn't be surprised if we see sites like SA1, Pirie Street being revisited with 160-180m+ proposals at some stage.

It will all come down to the quality and finish of the glass.

Yeah exactly, North Terrace is Adelaide's version of Billionaires Row in NYC in front of Central Park.
Everyone wants to be, and build there. Hopefully we get some more great quality designs and builds. I'm particularly looking forward to the impact Keystone tower and this second festival tower will have on the skyline, with this new height increase.

Except for the carparks and student apartments
