Sure is going up fast, can't believe I'm saying that. Where is the tower crane though? Maybe they won't be using one? Surely they have to for one of this height.

Another great pic thanks Ben. They are doing what they did at Coglin and what happened at SA Water etc. Doing the first couple of floors with a temporary crane. Tower crane/s later.

Thanks for keeping us up to date with progress at the southern end of KWS. However on a side note, KWS looks eerily quiet; where are the people?Ben wrote:From Today:

It's always like that down here. Only exceptinion is between 8 - 9 am and 4:30 and 5:30 pm... these new deveopments should liven things up though. Also interesting to note that only one cafe exists around the optus building now as the ones accross the road closed and the hills site got demolished. Talk about amonopoloy the lines for Funk are always out the door at lunch. Will wrote:Ben wrote:From Today:

Well all of these new developments have ground floor retail tenancies, so that'll change soon enough.
Great to see all the site work going on around the city.

Very enlightening/impressive photos again Ben. The opportunities for photos there would make going to work something to really look forward to. Great to see a crane there. Hope the pedestrian/vehicle traffic pisks up with the 4 new bldgs down there.
Visited the area in Jan 2007 and noted it was indeed 'eerily quiet'. (especially being KWS and in the CBD. Quite different to Bris. But In Bris. there are no where near the number of access points to the CBD as in Adelaide).

Well southern part of King William Street isn't in the main CBD core, so atm its more like a inner suburban street. While the northern end can get packed as - even past 7pm.

This is what we predicted. We have gone from a very very slow construction site to one on steroids. More steel columns have gone up today both in the centre of the site and along the King William Street frontage. Up to 5 levels high already!!! Here are some pics as I sat and watched for a while (about 45 mins to go from 1 to 5 large steel columns along the King William Street frontage).

Went past this in the car tonight and I must say that the activity is marvellous to see.

Looking forward to this big blue box being completed. Hopefully it turns out exactly like the render. Not usually a fan of the box but this place will massively improve the view along southern KWS and design wise looks very sleek without the usual 16 million 'pods' hanging off it.

Great pics. So does this mean they are only using a temporary crane for construction?
[COM] Re: #U/C: 374-400 King William St - 47m, 11 lvls
Read a couple of post back frank1 on this page. The crane issue has been discussed a few times.
They are using a temporary crane for the first few floors like they did on the new SA Water building, Coglin and other developments. This is common practice. Saves money on having to rent out tower cranes which is very expensive. A permanent tower/hammerhead crane/s should be installed eventually. This building will include another 6 levels above the 5 levels already represented by those 5 highest steel columns along the King William Street frontage. So they will need permanent crane/s eventually.

The mass of this bldg is finally making an impact. At an educated guess (from a distance - Brisbane) the tall poles appear along about one third the length of the bldg so far - so in the end the bldg will be very impressive through sleek bulk alone.

I rode past today, when did all this construction happen? I was thinking the planning approval for this was gonna drag on for months, and we're already up and away. Coooooooool! This is gonna look great down that part of the city. Our city is buzzing with construction sites everywhere
