As good as it will be for Adelaide to make it, it does highlight the fact we have nowhere to hold such events.
Spot on! Try telling that to all of the stubborn AAMI Staidum supporters on Sensational Adelaid!!! If only we had a stadium like ANZ Stadium... <SIGHS AND SHAKES HIS HEAD>
It would be nice to have an ANZ stadium but who will play there on a weekly basis to make such a stadium viable?
Port Adelaide? Hardly. They are struggling with the costs of AAMI as it is. And that's in a season where membership was boosted by making a Grand Final the previous season.
Adelaide United? Averages of little more than 10,000 tell the story. And other A-League clubs playing out of large stadiums are stuggling with the costs and are moving to more manageable boutique style stadiums (i.e. Melbourne Victory leaving Telstra Dome, Queensland Roar leaving ANZ).
Adelaide Crows? They are possibly the only team that could afford it, maybe. But even if they could 11 or so match days a year don't justify such a stadium. I mean, where does the stadium generate income if it's only being used so few times a year?
And besides all that, if Adelaide United want to play in a bigger stadium, they can - at AAMI. But they don't want to because it's not their home. Having an ANZ type stadium wouldn't change a thing in that regard.
Sorry if there was a misunderstanding, but when i said to have a 'stadium like ANZ Stadium', I meant it in the sense that ANZ Stadium has reconfigurable seating for both oval and rectangular sporting codes. To have such a stadium, wouldn't need to be an 80,000 seater, just a 55-60 seater, like Stadium WA, except build it so that it has the potential to be expanded to seat 80,000 should the need arise in the future. There's nothing wrong with a bit of forsight! (That wasn't aimed at you BTW

)
Also, just on your argument that Adelaide United don't want to play at AAMI; they don't want to play at AAMI because its not
their home. No, no. It's because
AAMI is not suitable for soccer. Don't start telling me that AAMI was built for football, because even football die hards know that its outdated and ugly, but they just don't want to admit it. The logical solution would be to move into the CBD, but, as I said on the 'AAMI Stadium to receive $100 million facelift' forum,
its all just one big boys' club. This is quite frustrating for the public that are screaming out for an inner-city stadium. Is it just me, or are the winds of change flowing up Gulf St Vincent...?
