Whilst I agree with the general sentiment that the building is not particularly good, I get tired of the sensationalistic take that always gets played. Is the building a bit shit? Yes. Is it the worst building in Adelaide? Of course not, not even close. What does “looks worse than even the most hyperactive imagination would have thought” even mean?
I don't expect particularly nuanced architectural discussion from the paper, or the general public, but surely the reduction to best/worst and nothing in between is such obvious nonsense.

If you stand on the corner of King William and North Terrace and view the development, you'll see how the design and its emphasis on vertical lines makes sense. Is it the best of most sympathetic approach? Far from it, but when viewed with the other NT fronted buildings, the reoccurring vertical treatment is sympathetic to the area.
Personally, I would have preferred a facade that showed a nod to the past, but more reflective of the changing face of North Terrace, but as per usual, let's judge this when completed and the heritage facade has been fully restored and integrated.

The fact that they are scowering Facebook groups with 7000 members and then quoting from the posts on the forum as the basis of their story is more of a reflection on how bad the Advertiser is rather than the building.
Shame, because the building is equally as terrible as their journalism. If they did a proper investigation into what the vision is for the "cultural boulevard" instead of quoting from cowboys on a Facebook group then there is probably a story there, but they are just not that sort of outfit.

I think the anger is justified. It’s definitely one of the worst developments in Adelaide. It also doesn’t help that the person who is in charge of this development avoids calls. Dodgy.

From a PR perspective avoid the calls is the right thing to do.
Nothing the developer says is going to persuade anyone who dislikes the building that it's actually decent, but engaging in the discussion could easily make it stay in the media cycle longer.

This is the thing. Of all the criticism you hear of this building, the one that sticks out is it's "unsympathetic" - the whole design is grounded in the area and like Pikey sees, the empahsis on the veritcal lines has some sort of of context in almost
every single building in that area from the jonnies car park and its apartment extension all the way to the tight cluster of vertical lines on bagot house (which is especially evident from the exact position pikey says). I haven't stood on that spot for 4 years and I know exactly what he is talking about when he references this - that's how obvious it is. Furthermore, what other bloody material finish would you have ther than a granite or sandstone like one compared to that of johnnies, the david jones building, the heritage building it's being built above......... bright green glass?!
"Unsympathetic" - a word one uses when you're going for quantity over quality in your 'considered opnion' on something you know not a whole lot about.

This is actually something that everyone in every job on earth does with the exception of people in call centres.
I'd make an exception for the advertiser though - to tell them to take a hike

Not going to happen, but I somehow feel as if that thing needs flanking towers on both sides, so turning it from a single spike jnto three interconnected ones....

rev's got a point, there isn't much redemption in the immediate surrounding buildings on that side of North Terrace. This once from the side is turning out like a guitar fret board...
