Well the tree is finished from what i can see but it is unusual there is no mention or advertisements on their website or even in the square itself. Maybe there are not having a lighting ceremony this year.

Just got this email from the ACC.

VERY dissapointing to say the least.
Thank you for your email enquiry.
No event has been planned this year for the lighting of the tree.
The tree is under construction at the moment, and should be lit from 830pm until 2am when construction is completed.

Oh damn. Now I wish I went last year. :(
I was going to go last year but I was busy. I thought that I could go this year instead.
I guess the turnout wasn't that good? Did anyone go last year?

Thanks for the info anyway. Now I don't need to keep looking for information on an event that doesn't exist.

Yeh I went last year and was a very good event. You could hardly move there were that many people so turn out can't of been the problem. Must of had better things to spend their money on this year which is dissapointing as it was a good event.

I noticed this, along with those (tacky) firework lights, lit up on my way home late this evening.

Shame there wasn't a lighting ceremony. I haven't been to any previous but it sounds like a novel event, apparently enjoyed by a decent crowd. We shouldn't pass up any opportunity to get people in the Square.

I couldn't find any images online of more specifically Christmassy blackpool illuminations, but take it from me they have thousands of Santas, fairies, snowmen, trees, nativity scenes etc as well as the mermaids you see in the photos above!

Maybe they're the Neon city, but I don't see it being a christmas city. Where is the massive tree?

It really is a very decent effort. I was only making the point that it's far from being the worlds most spectacular Christmas display. Very good though nonetheless.
