Views are a privilege and not a right.
if you pay good money for a beachfront property, then the government decides to close the beach, that's the equivalence we're dealing with here
Bit more like if you paid good money for a modern 2-storey luxury house just behind a small 1-storey beachfront shack, then getting pissy that the house in front of you decided to demolish and build up.

Mega story development. Lol what sensationalist bullshit.

I'd typically agree with the idea that a view is a privilege but in this case given that his has been put on public land... yeah let the guy be pissed.

Oh please, block out the views? Get a grip

Here's the view..
image_2024-04-17_194213507.png
What would it block out? Part of the western side of Adelaide Oval? A bit of the plaza/festival centre? Some trees in the distance? What a great loss.
Maybe we should level everything to the west along North Terrace so this bar owner's business has unobstructed views to the beach? Or maybe the owner of 2KW should do better running their business and promoting it instead of relying on a shitty view of the suburbs.

Personally I think it will add to the 'city' feel of the view and improve the vibe. I've been up there, as I'm sure many of us here have, and wasn't that impressed with the view, or lack of a view of anything of note. You don't need to be what 10 stories up to see Adelaide Oval.

The building that gets its view obliterated is the old and crusty Stamford Plaza which, sans view, has got 0 selling point.

No article with them bitching about it (although surely they'll fight it through the planning process).

Agreed. The Hotel Indigo rooftop bar has much more impressive views and a more 'city' feel.

Equivalent is more that you bought a beachfront property and then the government lets someone build on the beach.

Simple solution - put a rooftop bar on Festival Plaza Tower 2

Saw a big article about this in the Australian today. The premier seems right behind big support of it. A few hoops yet to go through but IMHO it will go through.

I really hope this goes ahead - a new tallest with a decent design - reminds me a bit of the Rialto Tower in the olden days, when it really stood out on the Melbourne skyline.

I was going to suggest this if its offered at market price of what the 2 KW street property would fetch post development to the owner of that business

Totally agree. Put a restaurant and bar up on the 38th floor! Views would be epic!

Absolutely. I was lucky enough to work on the upper floors of Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC) Tower 2 Singapore, which had a craft brewery and restaurant on the roof. The views were amazing, and it was a great place to take visitors.

They could always build it in Glenside!

A rooftop bar won't do much to activate the plaza, the stated purpose of this proposal.

But I do think this building should be as publicly accessible as possible, so sure, open the rooftop.
