[U/C] Burnside Village (Extension)
[U/C] Re: Burnside Village (Extension)
And put 15 shops on hold they will probably be reserved for designer brands once they make their minds up.

Has anyone heard if Aje and Zimmmerman are moving from Rundle st to burnside?

Does no one else see any issue with the fact that this redevelopment is quite literally going to massacre the CBD's shopping strips of its higher end retailers? Not that I believe Aje or Zimmerman have done anything for Rundle Street as it's not a hive of activity and can at times be tumble weed strip on weekdays but all the same, I find it quite alarming. Chadstone works as a premier shopping precinct in Melbourne because it's in the middle of outer suburban Melbourne, but this shopping centre is on the edge of the CBD and pulling traders away. In the same way that the businesses buildings along Greenhill and Fullarton Road(s) contribute in their own way to poor office occupancy rates in the CBD.

They are not leaving Rundle street. It must be additional stores.

The hour glass (Rolex) seemed quite happy choosing Rundle over burnside village.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 6:42 pmDoes no one else see any issue with the fact that this redevelopment is quite literally going to massacre the CBD's shopping strips of its higher end retailers? It will not massacre CBD retail. The CBD sustains itself on thousands of office workers passing through each day, and those workers arent leaving.
Burnside is for the rich people of burnside suburb.

I think it’s time Adelaide finally has a proper chadstone style shopping centre with exclusive brands. It’s the city’s own fault especially ACP for not keep Louis Vuitton next to DJSPatrick_27 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 6:42 pmDoes no one else see any issue with the fact that this redevelopment is quite literally going to massacre the CBD's shopping strips of its higher end retailers? I don't disagree with that sentiment, it's the proximity to the CBD that I have a problem with. Had a high-end shopping centre been built our of Mitcham Shopping Centre or even Castle Plaza or Firle, that's far enough out of the city for high-end brands to warrant potentially having a CBD presence and suburban presence but given how close Burnside is Rundle Mall/Street, naturally it doesn't make sense to have two of everything. Louis Vuitton was a pop-up shop, it's been mentioned here repeatedly and they still haven't yet decided whether they'll stay in Burnside or head back to the Rundle Mall. The issue I see it that Burnside appeals to rich people who want to park directly under the shop they plan on buying from (even if the carpark is a nightmare) as opposed to having to walk more than 200m to from a city carpark to Rundle Mall, convenience. But it's pretty sad that our city can't lure in or retain an array of high-end brands.Jackadl00 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 9:47 pmI think it’s time Adelaide finally has a proper chadstone style shopping centre with exclusive brands. The Rundle Mall car parks charge a fortune and are no less a nightmare. Eg the Wilson off North Terrace attached to David Jones has the tightest space carparks possible. It begs for damaging cars paint as people try to slide between cars and squeeze into tiny door openings.
A 200m walk is understating it for much of the shopping on Rundle Mall.
I also assume most of the customers with large disposable incomes are not based in the city.
I personally doubt many shopping at high end retail are getting in and out of those stores via public transport so a CBD location doesn't give much advantage at all.
A mall like Burnside easily defeats what is being offered by Rundle Mall.

Footpath paving going ahead now but still no sign of any cladding or giant advertising screens on the blank concrete wall on the corner of Portrush Rd and Greenhill Rd.

I’ve heard they are painting it until they get a tenant

On the videos burnside posted of the plans it looked like a LOUIS VUITTON facade but clearly LV hasn’t signed the contract yet so probs why they are painting it.
[U/C] Re: Burnside Village (Extension)
Well yep it's definitely being painted
Dare I ask, what's the plan for the design, luffingjib, do you know?
Strong primary-school-tuck-shop-mural vibes at this early stage but hopefully something... sophisticated?

Oh and here's a shot of the western end (Sydney street) since I haven't taken one from this angle previously.
