The mural appears to be finished. The gold paint highlights are a definite improvement; the white and grey were far too cold before and this blends better with the surrounding structures.

That said, the sweeping curved design was never going to work on a corner with rectangular panels and the overall impression is still one of a slap-dash measure and a plan that's gone awry.

I went to Burnside in the weekend for the first time since Zara reopened. It was grim. There was no one there and the new section still looks way off. A lot of shops in the main Atrium have closed and the Louis Vuitton pop up which I thought looked good in the photos was nothing more than contact pattern in real life which looked really cheap obviously given its temporary but surprising. I think this hasn’t gone to plan especially from a tenant point of view. I’m surprised they took the gamble without having the luxury brands signed up unless they all had contingencies written into the contracts and were able to pull out.

They could have put any facade over this and they choose to go with a mural? A badly painted one at that? Lord.
Feels like they shot their load too early with this development. Hoping in time it’ll live up to its premium status.

I have a feeling burnside must be giving Louis Vuitton free or cheap rent to entice them to open a permanent shop since it’s legit Zara and LV carrying the fashion side.

Why’s it black on the bottom it’s gonna get graffiti straight away.

I think that's probably exactly why it's black; it's easier to paint over graffiti with black than try to power wash it off a grey/white mural.

Either way I agree, as soon as the fences come down that blank canvas, in such a prominent location, is not going to stay blank for long.

This is an example of a “build it and they will come” not going to plan.

The latest shops about to start fit out (nothing new here) are:

Aesop
Hype Dc
Nude Lucy
Stylerunner

I’m guessing they won’t be finished in time for anticipated opening this month.
