Who's bright idea was that? You can be sure that it wasnt the Mayor's idea
one place these fences would work well though, is between the tracks at train stations like Mawson Lakes to stop those who jump down on the tracks to cross to the other platform instead of using the overbridge

If they're prepared to jump down from and climb up to a station platform, I dread to imagine what sort of fence would be needed to stop them.

For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

Photo from Grenfell Street today.
Not the best shot, but can almost see the barriers and the cyclone fence (with a magnifying glass and some imagination!)

It only occurs for the length of HS though, does it not?
Maybe it is to prevent people crossing South to North, and getting stranded in the traffic when they find there is no footpath access on the North side?

The fencing is also being installed along sections of the footpath on the north side of Grenfell Street, so it seems like a lot of barriers are going up. Some of the bus stops have been relocated now as well.

Walked past the Grenfell st windows today. Most are boarded up but through the doors you can see they are building interior walls for offices for the use of McMahon Services. In fact they have already put in desks and are working in the offices whilst the walls are being built around them!
I found it interesting that they are building walls on the ground floor because I thought they entire building including the ground floor was about to be demolished. These are proper plasterboard walls they are building not portable partitions. Also the lighting in that area will need to be kept on for the office workers, which again could be interesting because I would have thought all the power to the building will need to be disconnected prior to demolition.
Other than that I just noticed all the display windows on the Grenfell st side are boarded up, a temporary fence has been put up between the footpath and the road, and a walkway has been created outside of the fence (away from the building) using red and white road barriers. Also it would appear some of the doors at the carpark entry have been replaced with heavy duty steel sheet gates and I saw McMahon trucks going in and out of these gates. I can only assume internal demolition is underway on the upper floors and the trucks were removing rubble via the carpark maybe.
Sorry I didn't have my camera with me but hopefully this will give you some idea how things are looking. If I get a chance I'll go again with camera soon.

Are the offices in the "car park" section, which isn't to be demolished, or in the HS proper?

^ the carpark is not being demolished and there is some retail space on the ground floor of it which i think is where they are putting their demolition/construction site offices.

The offices are being built in the actual Harris Scarfe shop towards the Grenfell st side of the ground floor

That is the Lindes Lane entrance in the background, which is part of the car park, putting that framework in the ground floor of the car park.
