How the center of gravity is always close enough to the main 'tower', that the crane doesn't tip is what amazes me. The amount of tonnage capacity these things must have would be incredible.

Those counterweights on the backside of most cranes play a fairly critical role in ensuring the stability of these mechanical structures.

One of these days I'd like to see how self climbing cranes are put up and taken down. But I'm always otherwise engaged when it happens. Don't suppose anyone has a time lapse video of such an event?

I've watched a few in the last couple of years. This should give you an idea!

Mobile cranes, closed roads and things moving slowly. Franklin st crane that came down last weekend took 2+ days.

When I was driving along Hindley Street, I saw a new small crane in between Hindley St and Currie Street.

I have no idea why it is there, maybe it's only there temporarily.

If it was green, it is probabaly the crane for the CML Building redevelopment into the Mayfair hotel.

New year update. 8 buildings completed last year. Equal highest to 2009 since I started keeping records in 2008.

Lets hope this year we see some 100m+ start as we have not had any for nearly 25 years which is quite poor in Australian standards.

The next RAH crane will be the new record of 17... but looks like Rundle Place cranes will be coming down soon as they are opening the mall in March.

122 Grenfell and 176 Morphett would be the next projects to go up?

Not too sure what is going on with those projects. No news isn't good but hopefully will commence soon.
