Or just not read their websites at all. They obviously don't want you to.

I can't be bothered trawling through all of this thread, are they replacing the Gawler Place Canopy?

The Mall was neutered last night*, and the last tree chopped down this morning. (So much for that petition.)
(* No more Balls, they will be back though.)

Any idea when, Mono?
Hopefully Rundle will still be as energetic as it was before! We neutered my kitty last week and now all he does is sit around, hating life and cleaning himself. I do hope that Rundle Mall doesn't turn out this way...

When the third quarter is scheduled to be complete... which I can't remember at all. It's some where in this thread.

So, I guess that means "Three Quarter Time"?... How punny am I? Hahaha. Derp.
A little off topic here, but... I love it when cats get that sorta blasé attitude towards things that really aren't natural.
Kinda like the way that I occasionally carry them...
Also while off topic, does anyone remember when someone spray-painted onto the balls "Donated by King Kong" or something similar? Hahaha. Okay, enough derailing, I searched online for an exact date, but came up kinda short... (I love how Sensational Adelaide contains more info than most news sources!) I did however, find this.

March 2014
Works are progressing quickly down the eastern end of Rundle Mall, with the canopy being removed from Gawler Place in February
The new version of the canopy is to be erected in the northern end of Gawler Place at the end of May
The Mall's Balls will be relocated just a few metres north of their current position - being taken out for a polish at the end of March and coming back in the following months.
Oh well, I figure that they'll be back when they're back?

personally I think they are doing a great job in pretty difficult circumstances.
Whilst I was skeptical at first I reckon the upgrade has done the trick in modernising the Mall. The Western side is open and clear to navigate and feel like a shopping Mall.

I agree. But sadly, that's about as much as can be said for it, and it isn't much.

I really don't know what naysayers expect, the development is basically a new surface, which by all accounts being granite will be far more serviceable than the old pavers and a fix of the potential drainage problem. Looks good to me and the new layout means that users now use the whole surface rather than the strip down both sides. The shop front Architecture and lack of after hours cafés is another matter.

By way of comparison, and for the benefit of those who may not have been to Adelaide Airport recently, here's what I call an impressive, fantastic design for a modern outdoor mall!
Now THAT is something that, every time I see it, makes me think to myself "WOW. This is really awesome!"
Unfortunately, on the other hand, when I look at Rundle Mall, I can't help but think "What a wasted opportunity. This could have been something great".
Imagine something similar, but obviously narrower and the "stream" would have to be turned around 90degrees.
At the airport, I do think it needs more activity to make it well used. I'm hoping that will come in the form of a few more shops / cafes, perhaps some "pop-up" stalls, various exhibitions from time to time, and some street theatre of some sort.
In Rundle Mall, those sort of things are already there.

The "new surface" at the western end appears to already have patches of asphalt where people dug holes in the new pavers and then did a cheap patch job instead of putting them back. Have I missed something? It looks more like it's due to be replaced soon than only just finished an upgrade.
