If Buckland Park is Planned PROPERLY, not like the winding rambschackle hotschpotsch of Golden Grove, or Davoren Park with linear roads so a looping a bus service and links would work PROPERLY getting the most out of the buses at the same time whilst encouraging people to use the service.
So how does one plan for a new boganville?

Pat28,
Been looking at the maps of this development and it is quite feasible to run a Branch Railway line off the SG line at Gawler River Road, following Port Gawler Road and Horseshoe Court, then in a quarter circle into the Town centre of the Development.
Only real problems I can see is that a bridge over Port Wakefield road will need to be built and a bridge over Gawler River where it goes into the Town Centre.
It's certainly doable, just gotta have the money spent on it.

Some train running along a freight line to Adelaide every couple of hours would not be a solution to the area's transport needs.

Yeah but it would link to the Gawler - Elizabeth - Salisbury part of the line which would be the likely areas where most residents would work.
BUT I think by the looks of it this development is going to be very car oriented.

Think outside of the square people.
It is doable.
You just need to think about it.

It won’t be long and we are calling this Buckland lakes!
You do realise that the height above sea level for this area is the same as Port Adelaide, Semaphore, Glenelg, the adelaide airport etc etc...

Yes, and the port already floods on king tides, the Pat's a mess at Glenelg

Was this project canned? The Planning SA site has this terse single line on the list of
previous major project applications:
Buckland Park Rural Land Division | 440 rural living allotments | Refused | Vosporos Pty Ltd
EDIT - actually, that must have been an older proposal by the same people, the current one is
still awaiting assessment and hasn't produced its environment impact statement for public comment yet.

Greens blast Bucklands Park
May 04, 2009 09:45pm
THE GREENS want the State Government to reject the $2 billion Buckland Park development describing it as a "massive ghetto".
The Walker Corporation proposes to build 12,000 housing blocks over 25 years in the satellite city near Virginia.
Greens MLC Mark Parnell says the nearest services, including hospitals and employment opportunities were more than 20km away, with most residents expected to commute long distances to work.
"I cannot think of a worse housing plan – sticking tens of thousands of people outside the urban growth boundary, on a flood plain, next to a smelly composting facility in a heavily car-dependent commuter suburb," he said.
"The Buckland Park project is a massive ghetto in waiting as people attracted by relatively cheap land are marooned by high petrol prices."

If the Delfin plan goes ahead on the salt plains, i seriously doubt this proposal will..

I agree with the Greens. This will be a car dependant bedroom community at best, and a ghetto at worse.

AtD,
It will only be car dependant if the SA Government do not build a branch line off the SG line which goes north to Crystal Brook.
A U shape connection could be made into the northern end of the Proposed Buckland Park Town centre in my opinion.
