This one should have been changed to SWP/UC? a while ago, there's plenty of houses up at the former Actil site. First residents have also moved in already.
And work at the Cheltenham site has well and truly begun at the Cheltenham racecourse site. Saw a few excavators on site last week. Nearmap confirms.

I think what used to be the TAFE building on the Torrens Road side has also been demolished now.

See how NearMap already has the new streets in the St Clair development. That's coming from OpenStreetMap, a crowd-sourced open data mapping project which anyone can edit. I was the volunteer who collected the names of the streets on my bicycle and traced the streets from the NearMap image into OpenStreetMap. You can help too, if you see any streets that are misnamed or misplaced. http://www.openstreetmap.org

Such a meh topic, but the whole point of this land swap is to invigorate Woodville Road!

Seriously don't understand the fuss over this project.
Mayor looks for new St Clair land swap

ANOTHER land swap could save St Clair Oval from development and return the Woodville park to public ownership, Charles Sturt Mayor Kirsten Alexander says.

The new council will hold a workshop in February to decide its stance on the original contentious land swap, which would pave the way for housing on the Woodville Rd park.

Ms Alexander last week told the Weekly Times Messenger she believed the council should audit its land ownership across the west, to determine whether another site could be used to bargain for the 4.7ha reserve.

“There may be other properties that fit the bill for development in proximity to a transit corridor, so we can do an exchange,” she said.

The previous Charles Sturt Council voted in late 2009 to swap the St Clair land with the State Government in exchange for the adjacent former Actil factory site.

The move sparked community protests and helped Ms Alexander - a former St Clair Reserve Residents Association spokeswoman - trounce incumbent mayor Harold Anderson in November’s council election.

The land swap would allow the State Government to build a transit-oriented development with high-density housing, offices and shops.

A new reserve is being built at the adjacent former Actil factory site as part of the 1200-home St Clair housing development on the former Cheltenham racecourse and remaining Actil land.

St Clair Reserve Residents Association chair Leni Brown said at the very least the council should lobby the State Government’s Land Management Corporation (LMC) to increase the amount of open space retained at the site.

“This land swap will be very difficult to undo but in theory ... if they can swap it once, they can swap it again,” she said.

LMC chief executive Wayne Gibbings said the process for rezoning St Clair Oval was expected to begin towards the middle of the year while building work would start from mid-2012.

Historic stand's days are numbered

CHARLES Sturt Council will let developers to demolish a historic grandstand at Cheltenham racecourse.

This is despite the Council endorsing a plan to save it.

The bulldozers may move in as early as tomorrow and a senior manager has confirmed the council will not stand in their way.

First built in 1895, the Wyndham Hill Smith stand is the landmark building on the racetrack sold by the SA Jockey Club to become a housing estate in 2007. The 110m-long grandstand was the major part of a glamorous $10 million redevelopment of the course in 1990.

Council planning and development manager Adam Mrotek has told the Cheltenham Park Residents Association, by letter, "the developer proposes to demolish this stand". His letter continues: "To council's knowledge there has never been any intention by the developer to retain this structure which is not heritage listed."

Why would you retain a 110 metre grandstand in a residential area?

All aboard for Cheltenham hub

A VILLAGE square can be revealed as the heart of Adelaide's first transit-oriented development (TOD).

The community hub in Cheltenham will boast cafes, open air markets, public art and water features.

The plans, obtained exclusively by the Sunday Mail, give the first glimpse of what a working TOD will look like in Adelaide.

Sweeping plazas will link the proposed St Clair Railway Station to a multi-faceted town centre covering more than 2.5ha and including a retail centre, pedestrian-friendly high street, urban park and community sporting club.

The walk-up station plaza will also directly connect the area to Adelaide's CBD 8km away and incorporate outdoor dining, a retail kiosk and short-term parking to encourage residents to walk or cycle to the station.

The Sunday Mail can also reveal supermarket giant Coles as the major retailer for the $78 million town centre, with construction work expected to start mid-year for the opening early in 2013.

it actually took me a few minutes to realize there is a station there, where the bunch of people are crowding up one small section no doubt expecting the usual single carriage train

maybe they forgot to add the "architecturally designed super canopy shelter" to that station.

terrible image, if i was the client i'd make them go back and produce a better one

Pardon my ignorance on this, but can someone tell me the status of St Clair Rec Centre?

Was (is?) it proposed to be closed down?

Or IIRC, did Mike Rann proclaim "St Clair shall never be closed", and hence cancel the potential for that to happen?

(Live not far away, and looking for a gym to join.... )

I might be able to answer that question allkai.

There are no plans to close down St Clair Recreation centre. The issue has been around St Clair oval, which is just south of the centre. Developers had proposed a land swap (st clair oval for a new oval closer towards the center of the st clair development just west of actil avenue).
