do we dream of on/off ramps...Norman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 2:16 pmThere's an upgrade coming for Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill. Not sure what it entails, but I assume it could be for a full resurfacing or maybe even a complete rebuild.
The road connects Lonsdale Road with Main South Road on top of the hill and is notorious for its bad road surface because of the reactive soils in the area.
According to a recent social media post from David Spiers who is the local MP, land has been set aside for on/off ramps but they won't be built until the tunnels are complete (this may be an empty promise with the election coming up).alexczarn wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 2:40 pmdo we dream of on/off ramps...Norman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 2:16 pmThere's an upgrade coming for Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill. A resurfacing is long overdue, it's actually getting close to dangerous, but disappointed that the much needed ramps to the motorway, and a realignment with Black Rd to turn the sequential T junctions into a normal intersection aren't also included now.SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 10:11 pmAccording to a recent social media post from David Spiers who is the local MP, land has been set aside for on/off ramps but they won't be built until the tunnels are complete (this may be an empty promise with the election coming up).alexczarn wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 2:40 pmdo we dream of on/off ramps...Norman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 2:16 pmThere's an upgrade coming for Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill. Upgrades to Majors Rd will include replacement of the road surface, dedicated turning lanes and a shared use path alongside the road.
My understanding is that the turning lanes will be into the new National Park on the southern side of the road, the new BMX centre and the new Soccer ovals. The shared use path will help to connect these to one another and to the nearby suburbia at Hallett Cove and Flagstaff Hill, and probably in the future to the newly opened Happy Valley Reservoir.NTRabbit wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 2:39 pmA resurfacing is long overdue, it's actually getting close to dangerous, but disappointed that the much needed ramps to the motorway, and a realignment with Black Rd to turn the sequential T junctions into a normal intersection aren't also included now.SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 10:11 pmAccording to a recent social media post from David Spiers who is the local MP, land has been set aside for on/off ramps but they won't be built until the tunnels are complete (this may be an empty promise with the election coming up).

Also not sure what they mean by adding dedicated turning lanes, there's already dedicated turning lanes all along Majors Rd. There's also already bicycle lanes. Sounds like they copy pasted some spiel without actually looking at the road first.
In practise it doesn't work like that, thanks to the timing of the lights. Unless you're the first car in the left most lane and you floor it on the green, you will get stopped in the turning lane by traffic with a green light to turn off South Rd onto Majors/Black - and that light sequence and personal decision making is the cause of the often renewed flowers against the stobie pole opposite Black Rd.SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 9:49 pmI'm not sure if combining the Majors/Black intersection would have much benefit. The way it's configured means that a car travelling east or west through only needs to stop at one intersection before turning left at the other.
As previously mentioned it includes turning lanes for the new facilities and Adams Road I would hope.Norman wrote:There's an upgrade coming for Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill. Not sure what it entails, but I assume it could be for a full resurfacing or maybe even a complete rebuild.

According to a social media post from David Spiers, an upgrade of the Adams/Majors Road intersection is part of the second stage and is undergoing planning (ie: it might happen, it might not)neoballmon wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:25 pmAs previously mentioned it includes turning lanes for the new facilities and Adams Road I would hope.Norman wrote:There's an upgrade coming for Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill. Majors road will be used more by trucks from the Boral (I believe) quarry. They've just finished constructing a road that goes up the hill and joins at the intersection of Lonsdale/Majors to keep these trucks off Brighton Road and onto South Road, most likely to take advantage of the future tunnels
