Unsure if it's related to the final stage of the Market to Riverbank Link Project or not, but this week there have been underground cable locator workers on Pitt St.

Damn. Bentham Street reopened to traffic today and the 'upgrade' is apparently complete but for street furniture and soft landscaping. It is much lower spec than previous upgrades, all asphalt/concrete (no stone) with trees on only one side. I wouldn't mind so much — tbh I would honestly prefer more streetscapes down well enough than fewer done great — but for the fact the journey is so inconsistent through the supposed 'Riverbank to Market' link and very far from the concept. There's nothing here to indicate this is an important or linked route. It's more like a (somewhat greened) driveway.

That's really not an issue. Shared roads are common enough throughout the city and the street is now one-way southbound but for the section next to the Peppers hotel. Parking/loading is also allocated to the eastern side and trees to the west, so there is demarcation. If anything, the bitumen road through the middle should be of the same treatment so as not to deter pedestrians to the narrow edges.

Although funnily, on the east cars will park on the high aggregate concrete while pedestrians get asphalt.

Moonta St, Gawler Pl connecting to Rundle Mall, and Bank street have the same design as this one with the road at the same height. Have not felt that any of those were unsafe, much the opposite really.

I don't believe there are any restrictions to driving on Moonta st, the signage just says "Shared zone", but its blocked in the middle so its only useful for deliveries. Would be interesting to see what they finish this off with, blocking it in the middle would still allow access to all the driveways without allowing cars to pick up any kind of speed. Either that or a concrete bench obstacle course. I don't think there is really anything special about those streets other than the obstructions which have been placed to make it inconvenient to drive fast on.

Aside from that, I took a look at this in person today and I hope they aren't done with it, it feels very poorly done. The surface is loose and gritty like 20 year old pavers which have eroded away. The patchwork of the concrete, asphalt and new stone stuff looks awful. Will wait till its officially done before final judgement though.

Cars need to be banned from Bank St altogether.
