At the present time, the Federal Government is calling for public submissions in the $20billion "Building Australia" fund which is designated for infrastructure projects including rail. Since we already know the details of from the SA Government report on the Noarlunga Centre - Seaford railway extension and there is already talk of the Federal Government putting money in, how about we assemble our own submission? I have already posted this subject on RailSA to see if we can get some help from there.
Details are here:
http://www.minister.infrastructure.gov. ... 1_2008.htm
Submissions should be no more than 15 pages and sent to
[email protected] with "Submission" in the subject field.
Although email is preferred, submissions may be lodged via post and should be addressed to:
The Infrastructure Coordinator
Infrastructure Australia
GPO Box 594
CANBERRA 2601
Guidelines for submissions are here:

will409, it can't hurt to compile a submission. I plead complete ignorance about PT related issues, but will happily review the document for readability, etc...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Don't worry Wayno, as my edited opening post says, I have also posted this topic on RailSA so we may be able to get some help from there. Since the land has already been bought from Noarlunga Centre to Seaford and the current State Budget providing funding for a land corridor from Seaford to Aldinga, I personally think this should be looked into. I'll see if I can dig up the Noarlunga Centre - Seaford railway report and we can probably use that for some background information.

What happens if Wilfy writes part of it?
"Passenger trains to X, trains to Y, buses to nowhere, a train here, a train there"

I think the demand for a north-south freeway corridor is much greater than rail investment at this moment in time - the Feds have always been significantly pro-road and will be more likely to throw whatever money around that fuels frieght truck movements as a way of 'economical investment'. I wouldn't be hoping too much for Federal funds into either extension.

I agree with Shuz, I believe that the money should be poured into South Road to make it a 80-100 freeway.. This would enable freight and many other forms of transport to move the entire way across Adelaide in an efficient manner.

Not sure what all may you may think of this but do you maybe think making south road a limited access road may woresen traffic on surrounding roads?

Ive got the report for Noarlunga Centre to Seaford, where it harps on about the Westerly alignment and the 1980's alignment for the railway, who wants it?

If you're referring to the October 2007 report, one thing to note is that the Westerly alignment plan has improved since it was written: see
http://www.onkaparingacity.com:80/web/b ... typen=html for the newer plan. Compared to the DTEI alignment, it's longer, but significantly cheaper, and serves Seaford Meadows
much better, so that the suburb would not require a bus route as it would for the DTEI alignment.
Both alignments are ridiculously overspecced, with gradients and clearances designed for double stacked freight trains rather than the trains that would actually be using that line.

For 25000 kV 50Hz AC electric traction like what we are getting, the average height of the contact wire (in Queensland atleast) is 1m above the roof of the rollingstock. That is only the contact wire, the additional wiring and caternary structures stand even higher so a fair amount of above head clearance is needed. The width of the alignment generally also needs to be wider to take the caternary masts also. Finally, it does help having and alignment with light gradients and curve radius to allow for higher speeds. Sometimes it is better to over engineer things.
