It was extremely suss that the project was cancelled after it had already commenced, citing cost blowouts. According to the ABC article, the government still has never explained what those blowouts were.

Having the sleepers all lined up alongside the track, and then Knoll to claim "they were for the Oaklands crossing" project, should have been called out by the media for the obvious lie that it was.

Based off of a couple of images seen, this part of the Port development looks most exciting. I hope it ends up that way.

It's the Liberals, they just dogmatically hate public transport. Either it's not going to be profitable immediately in which case they don't want it, or it's going to be really successful in which case they don't want it because it sets precedent for building more public transport.

That particular non-build might be under Liberal's watch. I'm not sure that party politics lines up with closing railway passenger service over the last 50 years:
  • Semaphore, closed 1978, Dunstan, Labor
  • Finsbury, 1979, Corcoran? Labor?
  • Hendon, 1980, Tonkin, Liberal
  • Northfield passenger service 1985, Bannon, Labor
  • Bridgewater, 1987, Bannon
  • Dry Creek–Port Adelaide, 1988, Bannon
  • Penfield, 1991, Bannon
The Gawler line is finally being electrified all the way. All parties failed to do that for a long time. Extensions of the southern line to Noarlunga Centre was under Dunstan and to Seaford under Weatherill, both Labor.

I have no idea who to blame for closing passenger and freight railways throughout rural South Australia. Was that John Bannon's fault too?

Took my drone to Port Adelaide on Monday (the surprisingly sunny Winter Solstice) and this was the YouTube-worthy result - sweeping aerial views of the whole port, including old/historical structures and newer developments.
