Hi Guys I found this info on a recent ASX announcment from company Advanced Energy Systems. Sounds like the project has been beefed up. it is the same developer as the Pulteney and King William Student apartment complexes.

considering the monstrosities being proposed by this same developer at 260 Pulteney Street and 399 KWS, I am terrified to imagine what is being proposed for this site.

Just wondering why this gets Major Project status? It better be nothing short of architecturally mind-blowing if the government is to give it major project.

Going by AES's Aocheng Garden development in China i'm guessing it won't be.

Talk about sticking out like a sore thumb in that location. Good news, however.

To echo Howie's sentiments; I'd hope its a good design.

I wonder at what point we'll see the Integrated Design Commission start to weigh in on projects?

Don't think it's good style to bag something on expectations only. Even if it won't be the Taj Mahal I'd still prefer to have some high density residential there instead of what's there now (and has been for at least 30 years). At least it won't be a no go zone after dark.

Is it really correct that a project gets major project status because it's over the height limit for an area? Sounds a bit odd to me.

Either way I agree it will be good to see - the original proposal on this site was going to be 5 or 6 levels from memory but quite monolithic on that huge site. Would prefer it to be maybe two or three different height 'towers' rather than one massive block ala 400KWS but shorter and with messy balconies. Still, will need to see what it turns out to be in a formal proposal.

Would be a wonderful invigorator of that part of town. One thing often not given due credit to my mind is the way new buildings that tend to have a lot more glass / bigger windows reflect out a lot more light at night and make a place feel safer. I fully agree with Reb-L that there is not much which could genuinely be worse than what is there.

I read that part as "we would like to go outside the zoning on this site, which conventional planning won't let us do, so we'll try to make a case for major project status".

If this is an example of their developments then get ready for Adelaide to become a 15 storey Radiant City. :o
