Yep crane down this weekend. Was delayed in December due to lightening storms across the 2 weekends prior to closure.

I still feel that this is a great development. I really like the simplicity of design and the framing of the GPO tower from Vic Square.

I'm looking forward to the GPO restoration too!

I wonder, are they going to replace that awful tin shed roof of the GPO with glass or something that looks better...

Where in the world is replacing a roof with glass common practise? No doubt they will replace the iron roof with a new colour bond roof but give them time.

Apparently they dont have glass roofs, nor can they make them insulated and energy efficient...

Grand Palais in Paris has a glass and steel roof doesn't it?
Pretty sure it's not the only building to have a glass roof.

Yeah it's been done elsewhere, I meant more from a common practise point of view. Likelihood is they won't spent anywhere near that kind of dough putting a glass roof on a building like this.

I guess how much they spend depends on how much value we put into our older buildings like this.

Love that first picture of this alongside the BHP tower. Together they have quite a mid-century internationalist style feel imo, which means both should age really well.

I wish more was done with BHP but I get that they don’t want to take away from the clock tower.

Overall not totally bad.
