Thought he was moving to another location?ChillyPhilly wrote:Peter Van the Party Man to close permanently.
[COM] Re: Goodwood/Springbank/Daws Road Intersection
Govt decided to buy the business out rather than pay for the relocation.
[COM] Re: Goodwood/Springbank/Daws Road Intersection
Is it normal for governments to pay for relocation? If not, why would they do it in this case?
[COM] Re: Goodwood/Springbank/Daws Road Intersection
I guess their offer to the business is to buy it out or relocate them, whatever is cheaper. I assume an example is in the case of Port Road / South road for example Distinctive Funerals was relocated because there was surplus land nearby the government owned/acquired available to provide them.Spotto wrote:Is it normal for governments to pay for relocation? It's either a payout or relocation. As mentioned, another example is a childcare centre that opted for the payout at the old intersection of South Road and ANZAC Highway.

The radio this morning got somewhat different stories from Mark Van ("the government has forced us to close") and Stephan Knoll ("We were working to help Peter Van relocate the business, waiting for them to provide an independent valuation which we paid for as they didn't like the one we got"). It didn't have both of them on at once to sort out a single narrative.
Knoll even claimed the department had identified a nearby high-profile location. I think he said they had already acquired the property and were still negotiating on moving the business, until Mark Van's public announcement of closure.

Knoll’s version sounds plausible but I’m wary of trusting anything he says based on his record.SBD wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 4:10 pmThe radio this morning got somewhat different stories from Mark Van ("the government has forced us to close") and Stephan Knoll ("We were working to help Peter Van relocate the business, waiting for them to provide an independent valuation which we paid for as they didn't like the one we got"). Peter Van's had an electronic signboard up over the weekend saying relocating Feb 2020. Hard to know what is actually going to happen...

If he has decided or been forced to close down instead, I wonder why the sign hasn't been changed to "Closing on ..."

He's since put a closing down sticker over the top of the Peter Van sign on the front of his building. I'd say he's just late in getting rid of the illuminated sign.
[COM] Re: Goodwood/Springbank/Daws Road Intersection
FYI The sign has various other rolling graphics on there too.

The Peter Van building is pretty much gone. Shitadelaide’s posted a video to their Instagram of the last wall being torn down.
