FYI we don't usually bump threads without new activity. If there are updates someone will post them.

Last year the messaging was that construction would "hopefully start in 2023" so who knows. Could well be dead, but there wasn't going to be on any rush on starting it last year so could be going through the processes.

This site is really becoming a problem spot. Smashed windows, graffitti, visible collapsing interior, filth everywhere. And all on one of the most prominent corners in Adelaide.

The council needs to do more to stop sites like this going to the dogs. Personally, I think rates should increase over time to penalise landbankers and the like who buy up prime sites, get development approval and then sit on the site for years without proceeding to development. If there are existing buildings on site, the owners should at least be forced to host pop-up businesses, if they don't intend to tenant the buildings themselves.

Funnily enough I was wondering about this last week. I had a good trawl through all of the Wyndham and related corporate websites but couldn't find any recent reference to it after 2022.

Agreed, it's a shocking look for the city. From memory, the Lord Mayor recently acknowledged the issues with this building too, so let's hope something is done to clean it up at the very least.

I still have hope for it, but I agree with the sentiments that ACC/State Government should be more aggressive with developers who sit on property and do nothing.

You and I cannot purchase a suburban allotment and do nothing with it for years, otherwise our approval would lapse after two years at most. This should apply to CBD property, but with much shorter timeframes.

True, but it could with more aggressive legislation - either act on the approval and get building (or at least temporarily using/reusing/subleasing), or as you said, enact such a strategy.

I was really hoping that this hotel would have gone ahead but it seems dead. Nothing on any Wyndham websites.

The same goes for the proposed Hyatt hotel. Not sure why these high-end hotels are not committing - the low and mid-level hotel brands seem to. This corner site could remain an eyesore for years. So many large + cleared / vacant Adelaide blocks that could be residential (ie on Grote Street) and lots of empty properties in prime locations (like the Newmarket).

I was really looking forward to this getting up too. The renders looked amazing and really complimented the corner site with some curves. I was so excited we were finally getting a curved building... but alas

Obviously the Adelaide hotel market was not something they are desperate to move into - hope it still happens would be nice addition to skyline

However it was previously noted that the Wyndham Grand Hotel on King William Street would be the first in Australia - well that didnt turn out to be true
