Probably wouldn't want demolition occurring right now in peak trade. At least with the building being already vacated and gutted, full demo can occur right after New Year. If it were still tenanted through Christmas, it probably wouldn't happen till March.

What difference would it make?

The market itself has been crowded and buzzing this week. Bit of a surprise given the reduced parking and closed off arcade.

Parking hasn't reduced yet as far as I know. The level above the arcade was still available when I went in after the pageant two weeks ago.

There's also all the additional parking created next to the bus station.

Picture from this morning - maybe a crane counterweight (?) as part of the demolition. Not sure, but at least something is moving on the market site.

That’s to take down Father Christmas. Very much no action on site.

Why are people worried about this not happening? Have I missed something?

I guess just since last we heard demolition was commencing in November 2022, and that came and went without much of anything happening. I'm quite confident this will go ahead, having I believe over 95% of apartments sold.

The issue is the traders were made to leave in May 2021 for demolition to commence in July. It was postponed til November and still nothing. Everyday that goes by is another day further away from locals having a supermarket. It should have been managed much tighter and traders allowed to trade for a much longer period of time.

I just hope it isn’t another Adelaide Metro office situation. This is an iconic part of our CDB, having it empty for slo long will be quite bad for the city’s image and CBD

One could dream, any chance of Foodland and Dan Murphys in the new arcade?
