The state government should implement something like that for the Cbd/City/North Adelaide. So should the council.
Leave a building to decay and be used by squatters, and don't clean up the graffiti and maintain the building within a set time frame - then you get a penalty on your land tax bill. Council should impose higher council rates. Dependent on how many weeks or months a property owner didn't take action. The longer it goes on, the higher the penalties.
Get development approval and you don't proceed with the development within X months, financial penalties should be imposed. Put the property up for sale while development approval is in effect, then approval is revoked and hit with a financial penalty.

It shouldn't be targeted at small time property owners. Example some of those small houses behind the big Toyota dealership on West Terrace. Might be a private citizen, not a property developer or anyone major. Might be something they bought decades ago or inherited, they might not have the financial capacity to get graffiti removed or hire private security to keep the homeless away. Those sorts of property owners shouldn't be punished, nor should they be forced to sell because they can't afford to constantly get graffiti removed.

You're essentially complaining about the state private property is in. Unless there's a council by law or something regarding graffiti, take it up with the owner of said private property.

its not just heritage buildings and I suspect its a criminal act to trespass and damage property regardless of who owns it

its also a massive safety hazard as these squatters are off the rails...there's already been a building set on fire by them, nearby where I live

Scaffolding has gone up around the former Adam Internet building on the corner of King William and Waymouth Streets. Facade upgrade?

Been up for a few weeks now, they've painted it a darker charcoal colour. Looks much better imo.

Renewal SA have been selected by ACC to develop the old Franklin St bus depot.

They will build 2 apartment towers, comprising of 392 apartments. I’m sure there will be a few articles in the press throughout the day.

I have heard rumour of a second tower on site to accommodate the remainder of the workforce later this decade.

The new RAA sign set to top Adelaide’s most iconic city building is one step closer to gracing the city’s skyline.

RAA, the state’s largest membership organisation, has also given the building a new name – RAA Place.

RAA has now received development approval from the City of Adelaide for the new sign, with local South Australian business, Ecept, to begin construction within weeks and installation to be complete by the middle of the year.

Chief Executive Officer Nick Reade said the state’s largest membership organisation was growing rapidly as more and more South Australians choose to become members.

“RAA is so much more than a motoring club and more South Australians are seeing the value in becoming members every day,” Mr Reade said.

“We’re an iconic and trusted South Australian organisation that’s known for roadside assistance and insurance but are growing our offerings for members in exciting areas like travel, home, solar and energy and the electric vehicle sector.

“That growth is also reflected in our workforce and with more than 1,200 employees we’re moving into the city to help accommodate that growth.

“Our city presence will allow us to build stronger relationships with other city-based stakeholders so we can better advocate for our members.”

Mr Reade said the new RAA sign will be different to anything seen before on the 91 King William Street building, with the ability to change colours.

“Like the organisation itself, the new RAA sign will be dynamic – able to change colour to promote and raise awareness for important causes and events like National Road Safety Week,” Mr Reade said.

“We’re extremely proud to support a local business, Ecept, who specialise in the construction of signs and have also worked with a number of other iconic SA brands.

“RAA Place represents the inclusive and progressive organisation that we are and also ties into the Adelaide City Council’s vision for that part of the city – which we’ll be right in the heart of.”

Late last year RAA announced that approximately 200 of its more than 1200-strong team will relocate to 91 King William Street to help accommodate the organisation’s growth.
