I don't want to sound like a whinging broken record, but allow me the privilege this time; why is it that all of these lifeless, one dimensional buildings (usually student accommodation) end up being built at the expense of character/heritage buildings that even when in a poor state have more street appeal and value than other buildings nearby. This section of Franklin Street is quite shaggy, so to see this cottage go, before say the building opposite on the corner of Franklin/Morphett Street(s), really baffles me.

It’s always going to be like this as character buildings are almost never the highest and best use for the site, and stack up as development sites economically.

Was that other site up for sale?

I really hope this gets rejected and the bluestone building can not be pulled down. This type of development really should be built next door on all of that vacant under used land that was the former bus terminus.

I'm all for character buildings but what's heritage about this one? Not to state the obvious, but something's not heritage simply because it's old.
The neighbouring bus station
site will be developed from 2026.

According to the SAAPA site, the corner 2 level building is number 139, the single storey building is number 133. I doubt there'll be protests and petitions to save these two old buildings, not like anyone's favourite pub is going to be affected...

Lots of blank walls and no retention of heritage!

With the adjacent Tapangka redevelopment occurring on the Bus station site, I'll be stunned if this application is approved in its current form. It's a shocker.

Those blank walls are revolting. This is where SCAP really needs to flex some muscle and not approve it in this form.

We simply cannot become a city full of these walls. The planning rules should not allow them above a certain height.

It looks like the ART apartments and Kodo had a baby.
That is to say, I don't like it. I imagine the western wall looks the same as the eastern wall too?
