Plans have been around for this site for years but this is the latest iteration from John Byleveld architects. Looks interesting.

That is extraordinarily ugly. Thank God it's a vision only.

I don’t hate it. We’ve had alone proposed and built. This is atleast interesting. Not loving the salmon colour though it is a render. Could end up being green flyover how accurate renders are

Yeah there's no way that's gonna happen, but I hope something does go up here. Topham Mall is in dire need of a facelift.

They lost me with this bit. All for unique and interesting architecture but that platform seems out of place and would look butt ugly from below.

Absolute disgusting! Was this his final year uni assignment?

To what mind would think this fits within Adelaides context. :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

I wonder if Topham Mall will be next on the council’s list of asset renewal projects after they are finished with Market Square and the HJ carpark redevelopment that has been hinted at.

It’s aging fast, sits in a prime location, and is relatively underdeveloped considering its location.

If it ever is redeveloped, I’d love to see it opened up so that there is a full width pedestrian street the whole way through to Waymouth st. As it currently stands, pedestrians are funnelled through a narrow walkway once they enter the built over part of the mall, and given this is such an important thoroughfare, it can become quite blocked at times.

If parking is retained, entry should be reconfigured so that it doesn’t take up so much prime space fronting the Waymouth St intersection. That could be a nice little pocket park or square, if vehicular entry was taken out of the equation.

They should also activate that currently wasted and locked off alley which runs on the north side of the current car park building. It should be able to be linked up to Bloor Ct at the western end.

Agree with this. It always feels a bit dodgy walking through there, but if the walkway was the same width as the outside part of Topmall Mall or Leigh St with a well-lit double-height feeling, it would be a significant improvement.

Recent improvements to Charles St (off Rundle Mall) shows what can be done.

What do you mean it wouldn't fit within Adelaide's context exactly?
The overall design isn't great, as in materials, cladding whatever. But I think a building of this sort, with a few refinements to make it more sleek or modern 21st centurish, would be a great addition to the skyline but probably in a different location.
