Walked by the site this morning, noticed most of the building is gone! Lots has been happening over the weekend. I'm in the building directly across the road so have a good view of the site and its being re-developed, tho I'm not sure if I can legally take photos and post them here. Interesting seeing ground where a building used to be!

It really is the Myer building repeating itself all over again... I am sure in the next 20 years we will look back on this project and once again think "What the hell have we done!!"

agreed - not sure what baytram is on about.

it would be like knocking over the Myer Centre in 50 years - sure it will be old by then but still a terrible building.

This may be off topic but I for one love the design of the Myer Centre, or at least the original design until they stuffed it up by trying to make it contemporary (and failing miserably) and closing Dazleland, putting ugly safety barriers all over the place etc. When it first opened it was a great concept.

The Rundle Mall facade still looks great.

I must admit it looks like it was quite a grand building and whilst I do like the Myer Centre I think the old facade should have been retained.

OMG .. that facade was stunning .. what c..ck head decided to rip it down .. unless it was on the verge of collapsing, but very much doubt it .. that 1929 Image of the Adelaide Myer Centre looks so grand ... a big DOOOOH to what could have been!!!

The thing is it wasn't a Myer Centre but the whole entire building was just the Myer store. As such it was much bigger (probably about twice the size) of the current Myer store and I suppose Myer considered it too big. By halving the size of the store they effectively saved a lot of money on the costs of maintaining and running it. However the facade could probably have been kept and incorporated into the Myer Centre, I would have thought.

Getting back on topic, I haven't seen the site this week so far. Has any further obvious demolition been done since the last lot of photos?
