BusinessSA wants the Adelaide City Council sacked

#1 Post by Howie » Thu Feb 02, 2006 6:09 pm

Did any of you hear on Channel 9 news tonight? BusinessSA calls for the sacking of the Adelaide City Council and it's replacement with another body.

They claim the ACC has not done it's job in making Adelaide a more vibrant city like our eastern city counterparts.

I do believe they have a point, i'd like to see how this pans out.

I think that some of the councillors are doing a good job, however the city is being held back by the mainly North Adelaide resident councillors who selfishly want to keep Adelaide 'village'.

During the day the city does look vibrant, however once the sun goes down, the only parts of the city where you see people are on the usual 'lifestyle' streets. Walk around Flinders, Franklin, Waymouth... and you would be lucky to see someone. It also doesn't help that these streets are so dim, the street lighting is a disgrace. Another outrage is how important heritage buildings like the Town Hall and Parliament House are covered by huge trees, and both are not floodlit at night. We are probably the only state capital to hide such important buildings.

Its about time the ACC got sacked, they were such a hold-back to the growth of the CBD. More lighting, promotional posters, construction, buildings and tourist venues are needed around the place to enhance the citys reputation from being 'boring' to vibrant.

The lighting of certian places really needs to be done - look at the example of what they did with the Hilton Hotel in Victoria Sq, more of that needs to be done. And we desperatley need neons - there is not a single one anywhere - its pretty dark by night.
