Rail Loop at best is 15-25 years away if that. I always thought that overhead bridge over the rails, there was supposed to be a train station there.
This is now a huge exciting world class medical hub, I hope a train station there happens soon.
Any ideas on the car parking access and facilities?

They could just catch the tram?!?!Mr Smith wrote:Very much a missed opportunity, esp with W&CH co-locating in the future. Many people haven't got any near access to a tram line as they do to a train line in Adelaide...
I am interested to hear if anyone knows more about this underground train loop or whatever.
Even if its a pipe dream in another 10 -20 years are there even any plans/proposals [ie where stops may be].

I think you will find he was referring to getting on the tram outside of the Railway station.

It's not very good if you expect people to exit the train station to just wait and then hop on a tram to get to the RAH...would be easier if there was a train station at the RAH itself.

it would seem pretty ridiculous to have a stop so close to the terminal.

It will make that part of the Riverbank more accessible aswell, which will help rejuvenate the area.

Are you serious? By the time the tram gets to the ARC it is usually full. Secondly, most people that attend hospital are SICK and if you have a train line that essentially abuts the hospital why not put a stop there instead of having the train trundle past and then having to backtrack to the location.kenget wrote:They could just catch the tram?!?!Mr Smith wrote:Very much a missed opportunity, esp with W&CH co-locating in the future. Tables turned! - Are you serious? Sick people don't (shouldn't) catch public transport. This is not about (most) patients, this is about workers and visitors.Mr Smith wrote:Are you serious? The reasons for not having a station there would be;
* It's very close to the ARC, train stations should be far apart, heavy rail is for mass transit to distant spots, not really for short hops.
* Which tracks are you going to put the platform on? At that point you have multiple lines running to different destinations. You're going to install another station the size of ARC just a short walk from the ARC itself?
* A tram journey would connect with more services, including the ARC.
* Apart from shift changes, there would not be a bulk load of passengers which would require mass transit.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I would be in favor of better access to the west end of the Adelaide station platforms. This would require some engineering - an underground walkway with ramps up to the platform, but would open up Adelaide Station to the new precinct in a far better way - it silly for Hospital workers to have to walk all the way to the East end of the station, through the turnstyles, then back to the platforms.

Re sick people not catching public transport, some people don't have a choice Pal. Try telling that to someone who lives in the outer suburbs and only has a public transport option and needs to get a sick child to hospital.monotonehell wrote:Tables turned! - Are you serious? As for your second equally negative comment, that's why we engage designers and engineers, to overcome such challenges.

Well for those people in the outer suburbs, I would imagine they would be mostly using the outer suburbs hospitals. I am in favour of having a train stop at the new RAH if they can make it work but seriously if people can catch a train to the city, they can also catch a tram from Adelaide station. To me its not a show stopper, your argument seems flawed!Mr Smith wrote:Re sick people not catching public transport, some people don't have a choice Pal. Personally, I'm against the idea of having a train station at the new hospital. I completely agree with Mono, the key to a successful heavy rail system is that it is a high speed and high frequency service, which requires stations to be spaced well apart (2 - 3km) so that trains are able to reach maximum speeds in between stations along its route.
They really, really, really should have provided a western entry into ARS as part of the Convention Centre redevelopment. Oh well, too late now.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 6765455223The Advertiser wrote:WORKERS have walked off the new Royal Adelaide Hospital site after two cranes collided yesterday, prompting the third major safety inquiry in three weeks.
CFMEU assistant state secretary Mick McDermott said a toxic atmosphere had been building at the hospital worksite on North Tce since construction began.
He said workers voted this morning to hold work at the $1.85 billion hospital site.
"Workers have decided they have lost confidence in the contractors Hansen Yuncken and Leighton (HYLC) that they can supply a safe workplace."
Mr McDermott said there had been several incidence involving safety breaches "since day one" of the project.
"It's been everything, there have been three incidence in the past three weeks involving cranes alone."
Mr McDermott said construction had been rushed throughout and it was "all about productivity not safety".
"It's what we in the union movement call wallpaper safety, having all the paper work checked off for appearance but paying only lip service to actual workers safety."
...
One of the cranes malfunctioned just after 3.30pm yesterday, causing it to crash into another machine a short distance away.
...
It is the third such failure to hit the cranes in three weeks.
SafeWork SA is investigating the latest incident after "two cranes made contact". Work on both cranes has been suspended.
While workers suggested the gears had failed, the company behind the project insisted that "anti-collision equipment on all cranes was and is fully operational".
Workers told The Advertiser of their shock at the latest incident to hit the site, located in the city's west end.
"The whole job is just a joke," said one. "We couldn't believe it happened again."
Union officials last night expressed anger at the latest mishap, warning that a worker would be seriously injured unless changes were made.
They say the site has been hit by a series of incidents in recent weeks.
"I just cringe every time I hear of another incident," said Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union state secretary Aaron Cartledge. "Some one is going to be seriously hurt soon."
The latest incident comes two days after a crane malfunctioned on the site of the new $1.85 billion hospital.
It was the second time in three weeks the crane had failed.
