San Antonio style South Park River Walk
San Antonio style South Park River Walk
Have been there and left a great impression.
Running along South Terrace / Parklands about 20 Feet below Street Level. South Terrace is the place for this.

Check out the photos at the bottom of the link.
Cafes and Different Gardens
Could link back into CBD side into Shopping Plaza / Hotels.
Being 20 feet below could extend up along Anzac Highway to Greenhill Road and provide Link with Keswick Interchange.
What do you think?
Cheers, Cam.

I Don't see this working along south terrace, where's the river? That pissy little stream does not qualify. Plus we already have several of these river walks by the torrens...

Re: San Antonio style South Park River Walk
thanks for your reply oldchap,, I see this as a Major Works project. A man-made river carved into the Parklands which is manageable. The water is sourced from Underground Aquifier and to be re-used for Parklands / Industry. The economy generated will cover costs.

Re: San Antonio style South Park River Walk
I think this could work really well in the southern parklands, intergrated with the wetlands scheme it would kickstart and introduce life into what is a dull area of the city.
Re: San Antonio style South Park River Walk
you know Shuz,, if the water supply is available and I believe it is ,, then this could be something special.

Re: San Antonio style South Park River Walk
probably a good idea, although i'd much prefer the Torrens waterfront to be fully developed west of morphett st first...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
Re: San Antonio style South Park River Walk
it does look nice. Even a couple of cafes/bars/restaurants on the side of the Torrens near Adl Uni/Zoo would be good. Its a nice little part of Adelaide.
Whats the population of San Antonio, anyone know? Spose I could look it up

Re: San Antonio style South Park River Walk
I thought the South Parklands for this because - it looks South Parklands . Being a meandering man-made water filled cement channel that caters to Business and Tourists alike which Looks damn good ,, you can build worlds around and is manageable. Drain it and give it a clean once year . Like the yearly Mud Festival as the San Antonions call it.

Thought I would bump this Vision. Here is a cut and paste job of the concept using Google Earth maps.

I think the plan would be that the canal is Concrete based ( for easy clean) and that the Water is predominately Wetland / Recycled and Aquifer supplied. Building the canal at a gradient to induce flow and then went it reaches the end would be pumped back to the source / wetlands.
The canal and riverwalk would still be 20 feet below the street level however because building shadows encroach - might need to be further away from South Terrace. It should be viable as you can build an economy around it to fund its maintenance.

Re: San Antonio style South Park River Walk
I wonder if we could use the Torrens lake itself as a water source, its so mucky that pumping it around might be a good way to clean and oxygenate it.
Up towards the Zoo there is an open concrete channel, that might be a good location for this sort of thing also.
