Re: New Retail in the CBD
Are we seriously getting Krispy Kremes??? I've heard a lot of suggestions over the years but I'm still yet to see one open up...although to be honest, I reckon the doughnuts at Donut King are actually better than at Krispy Kreme.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
Call me a wet blanket, but a bunch of overseas (or at least out of state) brands opening stores so we can send our money out of the town and dress the same way that they do elsewhere (or eat the same doughnuts) isn't nearly as interesting as hearing about local brands making headway would have been.
One of the interesting stories over here during the credit crunch was an unexpected winner amongst the chaos - sewing and fabric stores had one of their best years in decades, especially around the "prom night" times. Making a blessing out of advesity, large numbers of teenagers were going to their proms in dresses that they had made, and even designed, themselves. Apart from selling more material, the stores were also filling classes with people wanting to learn techniques. Another thing I see is people buying a bunch of second-hand clothes, taking them apart and reassembling them into new garments; indeed I work with a couple of people who do that as a hobby.
This kind of activity I think bodes better for the long-term economic health of a place -- and likely also for its status as a cool place to be -- than having people traipse into a chain store, waving credit cards around. Those kids taking responsibility for their own outcomes and flexing their creative muscles are going to give their cities a better chance of producing a Paul Smith than of just opening one.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
All of those new stores are Australian designers bar diesel, ck and american apparel. I think keeping jobs here and having people spend there money here rather then fly to Melbourne or Sydney to get Liso Ho, Sass & Bide, Zimmerman etc is quite a big deal and great for our economy... just my opinion. Unfortunatly not every store or every brand can be South AustralianPrince George wrote:Call me a wet blanket, but a bunch of overseas (or at least out of state) brands opening stores so we can send our money out of the town and dress the same way that they do elsewhere (or eat the same doughnuts) isn't nearly as interesting as hearing about local brands making headway would have been.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
A little off the topic I know, but the best donuts in this state are at a little German Backery in Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley. Can't remember the name but they are massive and Beeeeautiful!Pistol wrote:Krispy Kreme is so overrated.
The best donuts in town are at the 24hr bakery on O'Connell st. THE BEST.
"SA GOING ALL THE WAY".
Re: New Retail in the CBD
Are Krispy Kremes really coming? Oh God no, just when I started saving money! Now I will be spending it all on those intoxicating glorious glazed donuts which make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside like Humphrey Bear giving you a big cuddle under the moonlight and the sound of trams whizzing by, life all mechanholy and wonderful....
Errr... Never mind my rambling.

KK in Adelaide is not happening. I recieved this confirmation todayBen wrote:Hi I thought i'd start a thread purely on the new stores opening in Adelaide.
Anyone that knows anything about fashion would agree this has been one of Adelaide's biggest years on record for big brands opening new stores despite the GFC.
So in recent months we have had.
G Star Raw (Myer Centre)
Calibre (David Jones)
Calibre (Rundle Street)
Sass & Bide (Rundle Street)
SABA (Rundle Street)
American Apparel (Rundle Street)
In the next few months we are getting
Lisa Ho (Rundle Street)
Zimmerman (Rundle Street)
Ed Hardy (Myer Centre)
Betina Liano (location TBC)
Calvin Klein Underwear (location TBC)
Diesel (location TBC)
Politix (location TBC)
Non Fashion:
Krispy Kremes (location TBC)
"Good Morning,
We have received numerous enquiries this week in regards to this. As previously advised, we do not have any plans to open a store in Adelaide at the moment.
Kind Regards,
Leah Little"
Re: New Retail in the CBD
It's something I noticed coming back from interstate - the range of stand alone fashion stores here has really, really picked up. Adidas and Hype are recent enough additions too.
Ben, where'd you hear about Ed Hardy (which I could do without), Bettina Liano, Diesel and Politix (which I could also do without, but wasn't there one at Marion recently?)?

Re: New Retail in the CBD
Ed Hardy signage is all over the Myer Centre saying Opeing November. What do you mean do without Politix, I love their stuff! ll There hasn't been an Adelaide store since 1998 (when all they sold was leather jackets) They are a lot better now. Betina Liano is meant to go next to the new Zimmerman but not sure if that location is confirmed as only Zimmerman is getting fitted out at the moment.Pants wrote:It's something I noticed coming back from interstate - the range of stand alone fashion stores here has really, really picked up. Re: New Retail in the CBD
Kmart sells Ed Hardy car mats and sunshades.
That should tell you all you need to know about Ed Hardy.
