Like many photos of the South-East CBD area lately, these could have also been posted in the Realm thread, but I have decided to put them here instead. Anyone else notice they've been putting up some kind of roof structure on the lower/wider part of the Adelaidean? (7/12/2019)

Plasmatron, that's a nice angle. A couple more tall towers besides the student accommodation on Frome St/Nth Terrce will make this into an interesting cluster. Next year around winter with all the lights on will be nice.
Cheers

Two thoughts after looking at the most recent photos posted:
1. As someone else said, the articulation/step effect at the top of Adelaidean is truly necessary to give it some sort of break to the blandness; and
2. I'm not so fussed about the student apartment tower (now) being built in front of it because frankly, the entire bottom half from that angle is not so nice

It looks very cheap quality and not worthy of a new tallest title. realm is far superior in design and quality IMO. Hopefully this won't be the tallest for long.

Kyren's buildings are all bland but good ole Samaras seems to be the only one with any balls erecting towers. Wait 'til the student accommodation tower is built. It most probably will take the spotlight. As for Realm, that too is nothing special. Simple building with a wavy form thanks to protruding balconies and a few screens to add shapes. Come on, neither are commendable for their design. It is only for their height they are welcomed.
Cheers

I don't think it being a relatively rectangular "boring" shape is the problem - probably my favourite skyscraper is the Seagram Building (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seagram_Building). What I think is disappointing here is the quality - like Ben says. At least at night it will probably look better.

The angle that shows Realm and this are what truly show this to be bland. Realm outshines this in every way. This just looks so static, boring and rigid. From the renders the subtle angle in the facade carried through on all four corners. This? Looks like a cheap elongated block. It’s so uninspired.

Realm is the best tall building in Adelaide by far. It has aesthetic, shape, color, focal interest.
Whereas this is just like any other apartment tower that goes up in the world. Snooze.

I don't disagree re: Adelaidean and I have a lot of respect for the Samaras attitude of getting on with the job - the building on Wakefield Street being a case in point (and having worked in 400KWS at one point). For me, I guess I am disappointed in Adelaidean for the reality of what it turned out to be. Yes, definitely its status as our new tallest probably built expectations but even on the fairly simple design I guess I expected it to look more elegant or classic or something. I wasn't expecting anything other than blue glass in a fairly basic shape, but somehow it lacks the zing factor in any appreciable way even with the benefit of extreme height (by Adelaide standards).
Realm I have to disagree on. Is it special by what is seen in select global cities? Definitely not. But looking around Adelaide, I think it is. I am surprised by the reaction I have to some of the photos posted on here by others - in certain lighting and angles it actually makes me think 'wow that looks good'. I would put Realm in a similar league to the new SkyCity building and probably Uniting Communities as buildings that I feel express a certain victory of design quality over absolute cost minimisation. Or at least, smart use of constrained budgets.
But yeah, obviously everything to do with aesthetics is ultimately subjective.
